I know that there has been some talk on the board about Jon Caspers potentially playing this year instead of redshirting. After practice tonight, OL coach Bill Bleil told the media the plan is still for all newcomers on the line to redshirt the season, including Caspers. Thought I would pass this along.
In the minimal views we've had of him at practice, Caspers has looked pretty solid. Its a very good sign for the future that we can afford to redshirt him...its doubly nice that its also his preference.
There are at least 3 or 4 other guys available to fill in for an injury before you have to get to the point of burning redshirts.
Yes, the possibilities might inlcude switching a reserve from another position inside--I recall that Lichtenberg spent time working at guard in the Spring--sliding reserves over from other spots (Tuftee?), or even letting a quality reserve step up, and moving KO or Lamaak play LG. I'm pretty sure that we'd have to have several injuries--or be hit very early in the season--for depth to be the issue that pulls a redshirt of Caspers....
Of course, it would be much more certain if Haughton were still around. Where did he end up, BTW? Any chance he'll be back after a year?
Paul Rhoads' players never quit.
(They just disappear offseason)
