he had ALS, but his ALS was caused by concussions.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

If he didn't have ALS, will they have to re-nickname the disease then?

I love football as much as the next guy, and I played it a lot growing up, in high school, and through college, all seemingly with no ill effects; however, with all these reports, I'm going to have a hard time letting my kids play when that time comes.

Re: Lou Gehrig May Not have had ALS

Denis Leary (in Babe Ruth voice): Gotta love Lou Gehrig. Died of Lou Gehrig's disease, how the hell did he not see that one coming? Used to tell him "here's a disease with your name ALL OVER IT, PAL!" There's no Babe Ruth disease, I can tell you that right now. Here, have a hot dog and a hummer - it's on me...
