The desert is boring and hot. The aquarium is great as is the jungle. Make sure you drink alot of water if its hot, that place can zap you quick.

    Don't feed the animals. ;)

Do not pull limbs off the trees and try and feed the goats yourself. Although the staff didn't mind, my wife sure did!

    Re: Omaha Zoo

Heading there this weekend - it seems everytime I go something is closed down. Last year the power was out after a bad storm, the jungle was the only thing open for half the day.

If you've never been before, then the jungle and aquarium are both well worth it. The desert is kind of neat, but as stated maybe kind of boring - I still enjoy it though. Expect a lot of walking, it's a very spread out zoo. I'm not sure there isn't anything NOT to do.

Oh, about forgot, enjoy the bat cave!

    Re: Omaha Zoo

There is a Madagascar exhibit going on now. The lemurs in that exhibit are pretty entertaining. I concur on the desert. It is what it advertises, a desert.

It is a good idea to have a rough idea of what you want to see and a route to take to see all of it. Otherwise you end up spending a good chunk of your time backtracking over stuff you have already seen and you end up worn out before seeing what you want.

    Re: Omaha Zoo

We were there about a month ago. Took us 6 hours to walk through all the stuff. We have a 6 & 2 yr old though. I agree that the desert isn't that great, but the rest is pretty awesome. The train ride is a good, quick way to cool off. Moves fairly quick so you get a breeze. You can pack your own lunch as well. I would definitely recommend it. Food prices are high there, esp if you have kids. Pack as much bottled water as you can. It gets hot walking around. The new Madagascar exhibit is cool.

If you want to see a good show, have the kids bring raisins into the rainforest monkey area. The little boogers crawled right up to him and stole the rasins right out of the box.

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

    Re: Omaha Zoo

We went this past weekend and I would echo what was already said for the most part. My absolute favorite part is watching the gorillas, chimps, and bonobos. They are incredibly entertaining. The aquarium was absolutley packed the day we went to the point we (and about 10 other famillies) had to duck out of one of the side doors half way through the exhibit.

Have a good plan in place for immediate filling your stomach with beer after the trip. You will be hot, you will be tired.

    Re: Omaha Zoo

I'd go through downtown to get there. Left on 13th St. to get to the main entrance IIRC.

The off ramp shouldn't be bad on Wednesday but you never know. I don't think the desert is boring but do make sure you go down to the lower level there.
