    PGA Heartbreak

    Anyone watching this? Dustin Johnson bogies the 18th to go into a 3-way playoff with Watson and Kaymer. After Johnson finishes, he gets notified of a 2 stroke penalty on the 18th for grounding his club in a "bunker". Very questionable designation of a bunker as it was in the middle of the gallery. Now he doesn't have a chance to win the tournament.

    At least he didn't make the putt on the 18th to win it...

    Re: PGA Heartbreak

    What a load of crap. That is embarassing for the sport. What a stupid technicality.

    Groudning his club in a trampled area filled with garbage and people, and you take the tournament away from him for that? BS

    he should have read the rules that were handed to him and posted in the locker room.

    The rules would not of helped. Any person knows you cant ground your club in a bunker. He needed an official to tell him it was a bunker in order to get any help before he hit.

    Re: PGA Heartbreak

    this happened to someone the last time the PGA Championship was at this course, IIRC.

    Either way, the rules were posted, he made a mistake and it cost him.

    Touching your club to the sand, when not hitting the ball.
    Rule 13-4 of the Rules of Golf:
    Ball in Hazard; Prohibited Actions
    Except as provided in the Rules, before making a stroke at a ball that is in a hazard (whether a bunker or a water hazard) or that, having been lifted from a hazard, may be dropped or placed in the hazard, the player must not:
    a. Test the condition of the hazard or any similar hazard;
    b. Touch the ground in the hazard or water in the water hazard with his hand or a club; or
    c. Touch or move a loose impediment lying in or touching the hazard.
