    Daycare transition

Let me preface this by saying I'm a first time parent and haven't had to deal with anything like this before. Our daycare provider (whom we love and are extremely comfortable with) is no longer going to be watching children. We've found a new place that I think will be good but I'm a little worried about any transition effects this will have on our son (new place, new provider, new kids, new schedule, etc.).

Does anyone have any words of wisdom they could provide for this type of situation. I'm sure it happens quite often and things will be ok but I'm stressing out a little at the moment.

    Thanks.

    Re: Daycare transition

Kids are amazingly resiliant, don't worry too much, you'll deal with any problems that come up as they occur. Our parents wouldn't have thought twice about it...we worry too much about the little ones today. My son is 10 now and went through a few different daycares in his pre school days, if your kids are well rounded in general they will handle it better than you expect.

Agree with you JParker22. It is almost guaranteed that us parents will make the problem out to be WAY bigger then it will actually become in reality.

I'm pretty sure it isn't the only transitional thing that he will have to go through in his life, so as long as you are trying to maintain some stability in that respect, the change of environment will be a learning experience that will help him deal with new things down the road.

    Re: Daycare transition

Can you take him to the new place for a few hours one day, like 2 hrs, and then 4 hrs the next day and then the full day on the third? My wife is a SAHM, but we have recently introduced pre-school activities to the twins. It was scary for them at first, but now they love going. The first couple sessions were all about transition.

I know it will cost you some vacation, but it is important to make them comfortable, it will pay off in the long run if they love to go the new place as much as the old one.
