If Hilton's floor needs to be replaced...

what will they do with the floor? Throw it away? Auction pieces off? Give the pieces away? I am really curious because I sort of want a piece of the floor if they are just going to throw it away. Anybody know what they did with the floor from 1993?

In the other 1993 thread, they sold off pieces.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

They auctioned off pieces. Probably will do it again.

Back in '93, how big were the pieces they sold and how much did they cost?

Re: If Hilton's floor needs to be replaced...

i think it would be wise to try and sell it in pieces-i would love to have a section even if it is slightly water damaged. they could raise some of the cash towards a new one this way...

I would definitely buy a piece. It'd be sweet if they were signed by Freddy too!

Been a while since I saw it, but a friend has one and it was around 12" x 12", maybe a bit larger. Don't have the first clue what they cost.

I assume there's no "if" about replacing it really.

Agreed. Between the certain water damage, and the report earlier that this floor was on it's final refinishing - there probably isn't much to work with anyhow.

I think they were square feet pieces. There's a bar in Marshalltown that has one and they have it on the wall. It also came with a certificate that showed where the piece came from.

At 1'x1', there would be 4700 pieces of actual playing surface (not counting sideline and baseline runout area).

However, I'm guessing that a few large sections would be cut out and reserved -- the center court logo, the Big 12 logo in each lane, and the Pioneer logos.

Re: If Hilton's floor needs to be replaced...

I have a friend that has a piece of the old court. The cost depended on the bidders being that it was an auction, and varied by what part of the court you were getting. So you could get some pieces pretty cheap if you got a section os the out of bounds area on the sideline etc.

Yeah - it's been a while. Might be larger.

I'd think the actual size is dependant upon the size of the various sections that make up the floor. They'd cut them up rather evenly

I don't recall it being an auction, however. How did they pull that off?

Re: If Hilton's floor needs to be replaced...

I was at the Duke Book Store the other day and they were selling small pieces of the national championship floor for an outrageous price (I think it was like $70 for a ~3" x 5" piece). Although, if Iowa State won a national title I might not think it was so outrageous.

Re: If Hilton's floor needs to be replaced...

I don't remember the prices. The floor was cut up in various sizes though the logo areas were kept intact. Most of the pieces were 1'x1' and 2'x2'. I have a 2'x2' piece from the south sideline that's all red. I also have a 1'x1' piece (also red) from the east free throw lane.
