Is I35 closed both ways near Ames?

Or is it only southbound? How are they going to detour these drivers?

Last report from the DOT says only southbound lanes are closed although northbound may be following soon. The detour is US 30 east to US 65, then down to IA 330, then IA 330 to I-80 in Altoona.

How about US 69? Is that one open?
If so, are they planning to keep it open?

Why is 35 closed? Where is the water specifically? Just south of Ames?

Home with a sick kid today and just heard on the scanner that the DOT is going to be closing 35 at the Elkhart exit.

I think 69 should remain open, at least from south of Ames to Ankeny. I believe it only passes over one very small creek.

I don't know specifically where it's at, but within proximity of the Skunk River, about 2 miles south of US 30. The ditches there were full even yesterday.

I tried to get into Ames this morning around 8:00. I exited I-35 at IA 210, trying to cut over to US 69 and head north through Huxley to Ames. Tons of traffic, obviously, as that is/was the only major route into town. I was cut off twice, first by a deputy who forced me back onto I-35 south, then by a Huxley officer who walked up to my car on US 69 at the four-way stop at IA 210 and told me to turn left on 210, which would not have gotten me to Ames.

So US 69 may indeed be restricted simply due to traffic. And if it's not, leave yourself a ton of travel time.

northbound traffic is going to be routed off of 35 at the 1st street exit, Ankeny PD is going to assist with traffic.

Here's a link to the 35/1st street traffic cam:

On the plus side, I usually leave for work at 9:30 PM, so the traffic is pretty thin.

there's talk now on the scanner of pushing 35 closure clear down to the East Mixmaster.

Do you mean the East Mixmaster? If it is the West Mixmaster, I-35/80 would be closed clear through Des Moines.

West? Wow. That's another 25-30 miles from Elkhart.

Is the 80/35 corridor closed somewhere? Or in danger? Perhaps between Merle Hay and 2nd?
