PBS: Wall of Separation (11PM Sunday, IPTV)

I just happened to notice a show that will air soon on PBS. With all the recent discussion, some here may be interested. Wall of Separation will be broadcast on IPTV on Sunday June 17, 2007, at 11:00 PM. It appears the program isn’t your standard PBS fare. You can find out more about the program here (and check local listings):

PBS Pressroom - WALL OF SEPARATION rls

Here is a blog entry on the program from Americans United for Separation of Church and State:

And here is another blog post on the topic:

Personally, I have found that learning more about Jonathan Edwards has helped me understand much more about the state of religion at the time of the founding, and its development since. Edwards was an 18th century preacher and a leader of the first Great Awakening and is probably America’s greatest theologian. His voluminous writings are still in the process of being transcribed (from Edward’s shorthand) and published.

Here is a recent biography of Edwards that I found truly outstanding:
Jonathan Edwards: A Life - Google Book Search

And here is brief online biography from the Jonathan Edwards Center at Yale University:

[Click on the JEC home page for free access to certain writings just now being made available.]

Even more relevant to the subject of this post, another excellent book is Religion and the American Mind: From the Great Awakening to the Revolution:

It is a more difficult read than Jonathan Edwards: A Life, but I find the reviews there accurate.

A more detailed review of Religion and the American Mind is available at the JEC blog:

Thanks for the info. I'll be watching for that....though 11:00 on a Sunday? Weird time for a show. You would think they would find a space to drop it in prime time. Perhaps they are trying to stay "fair and balanced", so they can point to this as evidence, even though the time slot sucks?

As opposed to Iran where the Church is the State.
