    Hilarious slams on Metallica

So I got bored and decided to look at some reviews of cd's and such that I wanted some insight on, and decided to see what people had to say about the arguably worst album of all time, St. Anger. Man, when THESE GUYS let someone have it for producing trash, they have some creative metaphors at their disposal. For example, one reviewer wrote,
Those unbearable lyrics delivered through a vocal performance that sounds like livestock being violated by a pickle?
and I can't pass up this little gem:
No more screwing around, with hooks of any kind, with this one Metallica simply said "Set phasers to "sodomy" and followed through admirably.
Man, nothing eats up time like reading hilarity.

I really haven't liked their albums since Load and ReLoad. The black album is classic. But those reviews are hilarious!

The first four Metallica albums are classics. The Black Album is also good. The rest of the stuff that they put out is garbage.

I tend to like there newer stuff better (from the Black album and on). Not saying that I don't like their early stuff, but being in my teens during the 90s I didn't really know the newer stuff as well.

Garage Days, Inc. wasn't bad, just not original material. There were a couple decent songs in Load and (Re)Load, but basically after ...And Justice For All, they've become crap.

I like to call it the Napster curse - Ever since they started suing for piracy they haven't put out a decent album.

    Re: Hilarious slams on Metallica

Black was one of their most successful albums of all time, but is not the Metallica that was originally recognized. It was missing the Cliff Burton influence that made MoP and RtL so popular.

With that said, I have still enjoyed everyone of their albums. St. Anger was definately not normal Metallica expression that we have grown to love, but it will be remembered by all fans for years to come. It was live, edgy, and raw, something that Metallica is about. Sure no solos, but they were replaced by extended melodies and unprecedented jam sessions that led to the creation of the album.

One of my favoriate songs, Fuel, is definately after the Cliff Burton era, but it may be one of Metallica's best songs.

    Just my opinion.

I think you're right here. It will forever be remembered as the only album that sounds like monkeys farting into soup cans.

That said, I'm pretty sure that Dave Mustain wrote a ton of material while he was with Metallica, which eventually led to the first two albums after he left/was fired; which is why Megadeth and Metallica have always had bad blood between them. I'm not positive on his influence after Kill 'Em All, but I do know that he wrote a majority of the songs for KEA.

You are right there. He had a contribution to the bad, but had problems that clashed with the other members. The bad blood came from them pretty much just knocking on his door and saying "Your out!". No warning, no second chance, just he's out.

We al have our opinions, and at first I argeed with yours totally. I remember sitting there listening and saying to myself, "ok here is where the solo kicks in, wait, no solo!" I was very dissappointed at first with the directiong the album took, but I soon gave way and realized that if I was such a popular artist, I wouldn't want to be stuck playing the same old stuff all the time. So I saw the album for what it was instead of what it wasn't.

What will be interesting is if their next album they go back to the old ways or try and smooth out the new ones.

    Re: Hilarious slams on Metallica

Dave Mustaine definitley had an impact on writing when he was with the band. If you need proof of that, listen to "The Four Horsemen" by Metallica and then "Mechanix" by Megadeth. It's basically the same song.

Metallica's next album will be very interesting. To me, it will prove if they're washed up or not. You can spin St. Anger as being edgy or ballsy for them to do that, and perhaps it was, but the fact of the matter is it was not a very good album. The songs sound much better live, but when you're in the mood for Metallica, who the hell puts St. Anger in the CD player?

Metallica needs to get back to solos and deep lyrics. "I'm madly in anger with you" doesn't cut it.

I think a lot of people forget or maybe don't realize the turmoil the band was going thru during production of St. Anger. First, Jason Newsted bails on them, then James Hetfield decides to take a hiatus to enter re-hab. I'm giving them a "pass" on that album. Next one should "kick-***"

    Re: Hilarious slams on Metallica

I understand that most people are big fans of the Black Album because that's when they went mainstream, but it kind of rubs me the wrong way. There are a few songs that I like on there, but I don't think it compares to their stuff in the 80s.

    Re: Hilarious slams on Metallica

I actually think the Black Album is their second-worst album because it was a segue into the crap they released in the '90's. It was like a stepping-stone into musical suicide.

    Re: Hilarious slams on Metallica

The Black Album is why they are as popular as they are today, but it is also the reason that they lost a lot of their metal fans.
