ESPN Pre-season Big XII Power Rankings

Big 12 preseason power rankings - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

    9. Iowa State: The Cyclones nonconference schedule has made plenty of headlines this offseason, and Iowa State isn't shying away from its dates with Northern Illinois, Iowa and Utah. The legal issues surrounding defensive star David Sims appear to be resolved with an opening-game suspension, and running back Alexander Robinson looks ready for another big season after rushing for over 1,000 yards in his 2009 breakout season. Iowa State will need to steal a few games like last season to qualify for a second consecutive bowl game.

Can't argue. We're clearly going to be better than last year, yet it may not show up in the standings.

Re: ESPN Pre-season Big XII Power Rankings

honestly, not bad analysis, I like us at 9th. although I question the KSU and aTm rankings, that puts us in an honest scrap in the middle of the pack and 3rd/4th in Big XII north

    K-State is real high

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

I haven't kept track of experts' take on Mizzou, but I have them ahead of A&M, at 9-3 and 5-3 (I have A&M in the 6-6/3-5 area, but I probably have that projected too low).

I could see Missouri challenging for the division title, but would probably have to beat NU and get it on tiebreaker.

its a pretty fair assessment of everyone i think. isu and osu are pretty interchangable, and so are tech and kstate

Re: ESPN Pre-season Big XII Power Rankings

It seems like a pretty reasonable analysis.

Oklahoma State seems a little low, A&M & KSU a tad too high. It's probably a good take on the relative power of the teams, but maybe not so much the projected record.

If you look at the conference schedules, it seems like Tech & OSU could finish ahead of A&M by a game. But a few swing games will make a huge difference with KSU (OSU, ISU, for example).

It appears it could be competitive between Nos. 4 and 10. Hope ISU can lift itself to the high side of the mid-pack, at least.

Re: ESPN Pre-season Big XII Power Rankings

Mizzou has to go to Nebraska, ISU, A&M and Tech and also gets a visit from Oklahoma. It's going to be tough sledding for them in the Big 12, if they win the North they'll have earned it

Re: ESPN Pre-season Big XII Power Rankings

I see about 5 wins for K-State...does that get you the #6 power ranking? A team with a QB battle (of 3 so-so QB's, which is never good) who did not get into a bowl game last year?

Re: ESPN Pre-season Big XII Power Rankings

This is how I have them finishing after projecting the schedule ...

    Nebraska 6-2 (10-3)
    Missouri 4-4 (8-4)
    Kansas State 3-5 (7-5)
    Iowa State 3-5 (5-7)
    Kansas 1-7 (4-8)
    Colorado 1-7 (3-9)

    Oklahoma 8-0 (13-0)
    Texas 6-2 (10-2)
    Texas Tech 6-2 (10-2)
    Texas A&M 6-2 (9-3)
    Oklahoma State 2-6 (6-6)
    Baylor 2-6 (5-7)

If a ranked them based on end of the season record, I'd go like this ...

    1. Oklahoma
    2. Texas
    3. Nebraska
    4. Texas Tech
    5. Texas A&M
    6. Missouri
    7. Kansas State
    8. Oklahoma State
    9. Iowa State
    10. Baylor
    11. Kansas
    12. Colorado

    I have K State going 7-5

    Winning at home vs. UCLA
    Beating Missouri State
    Losing to ISU in KC
    Winning at home vs. UCF
    Losing at home to Nebraska
    Winning at KU
    Winning at Baylor
    Losing to OSU
    Losing at Mizzou
    Beating North Texas

I see the swing games as (UCLA, ISU, KU, BU and OSU)
I have them going 3-2 in those games.

I wanted to pick Mizzou higher also, but they have a tough conference schedule ...

    AT Texas A&M
    vs. Oklahoma
    AT Nebraska
    AT Texas Tech

... that's 4 straight weeks beginning October 16. I have them losing all four.
