    Defense overall view...

After watching Wally's video this on cyclones.com the biggest item that worries me is linebackers, when he mention Hamlin as the 4th man in that definitely has me worried the most. I hope the scalable are off on the roster, 6-3 198 is scary, I see George jumping ahead as the season rolls but I really don't want to see a lanky 200 lb linebacker on the field, I weighed 198 my junior year of High school, and have not been that light since, granted I am not d-1 talent but possibly size and strength.... I know a lot of our formations will end up being nickel and dimes but I think we need help here quickly......

I dont think Hamlin will be the 4th linebacker once camp ends.

if one gets hurt, Jake Lattimer will move back to linebacker in a heartbeat. trust me on that one.

Adding him back there as a DE/LB combo adds a lot of depth that you can't see by llooking at the roster. Hamlin will Not be put in a LB spot if someone gets hurt.

I hope you are right, not saying that Hamlin won't bring something in the future, but his lack of size scaries me a lot

    Re: Defense overall view...

You also have to figure that we will line up in the 4-2-5 for a fair number of snaps this season with Benton at the SAM/Nickel. That eases some of the LB depth issues.

Hamlin won't be back there. George will easily leap him and I agree with bigcy, Lattimer will move back there if needed.

Along with that Givens, Bennett, Watsen and Mattison add depth there.....

I agree the 4-2-5 is the best move in most conference games, but those power running teams are what scary me, Iowa, NIU, KSU... I pray everynight for no injuries. It is amazing how many LB's we have lost from the Chiz era.....

Dude, I'm not trying to get all grammar police on you, but the word is "scare". Something that is scary scares you.

    Re: Defense overall view...

depth wise, we are fine at LB. experience on the other hand will be the issue for the first few games. We have 4 good sized linebackers. with AJ, Jake Knott, Matt T, and Jake Lattimer (if needed) along with the guys that Jburke mentioned. We just need to get some games under their belts to get rid of the butterflies

was just going to post this...the 4-2-5 including Benton (Knott and Klein) seems ideal IMO.

Lot's of nickel this year. Also I think MT has to be careful not to get jumped by JG. That kid is a future stud. I feel very comfortable with our 3 year LB outlook.

I also take comfort in the fact that no one is making a huge deal out of the Dline. Hopefully this is a sign they are much improved.

Wally made some nice comments about the d line in the Cyclones.com video. Wally seems like a straight shooter, so that is at least encouraging.
