    Greyshirt question

So, Kron was supposed to be a greyshirt, right? Why is it that he is shown in some of the practice footage? Is he not greyshirting? Or if he is, can greyshirts practice early on before being separated from the team when the season starts?

    Re: Greyshirt question

He's never separated. He is basically a walk on who will take less than 12 credits and work out with the team. That way, since he wasn't full time, he doesn't use any eligibility. Your clock doesn't start until you are full time. He also will not be able to play in games obviously. No scholarship either. Normally a greyshirt is promised a scholarship the next year so technically he will be in the 2011 class. It's messed up. Grey shirts are also not able to practice in the fall if the team is at scholarship limits.

I wouldn't be too sure that he is still a grayshirt.

    Re: Greyshirt question

I wonder if you could play right away if he wanted to because of the one senior who graduated in the summer. I cannot remember his name. But either way, as a freshmen, a year of developing and lifting without losing eligibility is a positive.

This. He could be filling Austin Alburtis' scholly.

That doesn't create a slot in the 25 yearly limit for him. McCullough not making grades on the other hand does. The real question is if the open slot is given to Kron, awarded to current walk-on with less than 2 years in the program, or banked for a mid-year signing.

Since I don't recall grayshiirts ever working out with the team before--from Tuftee back to Kurtis Taylor--I would guess that Kron got the schollie.

I have, however, been wrong before.

You are correct about grayshirts not being allowed to work out with the team. They might have access to the weight room, but not workouts with the coaching staff.

If Kron is working out, he is either on scholarship now or is a redshirt with his 5 year clock started.

    Tuftee's second string this year.

    Re: Greyshirt question

I looked again. I was wrong. He must not be a grayshirt. He must have been given McCulloughs scholly.

I don't know how it works with a 2 year walk on. It could be possible that they would not count against the 25 but only against your total if that player was a member of the team before. If that's the case Alburtis would open a scholly.

I think you missed the point. The poster you are responding to meant he doesn't ever recall a first-year grayshirt practicing (working out) with the team before. Grayshirts cannot participate in any team activities in their first semester. They can only join team activities in their second semester, when their scholarship kicks in.

    Re: Greyshirt question

If he's practicing he isn't a greyshirt. I would guess he will redshirt now that he's in camp.

    Re: Greyshirt question

Interesting take on the greyshirt/oversigning issue. Is this happening at ISU as well?

I took it as being successful.
