    Parental controls

Just trying to set up my computer with a separate log on for my son. I'd like to set the parental controls, but I'm trying to figure out the rating adviser feature.

It's Windows 7, and I can enable it, and set the parameters, but when I go to test it, nothing on the internet will come up, and a note comes up for every site that says something like "you have not downloaded a rating adviser, so this site cannot be rated, and you cannot visit unrated sites"....

Do I have to download a rating adviser, or are my setting just to strict to allow for much of anything?

Take a look at Norton Online Family if you get a chance.

    Re: Parental controls

I'm hoping to use the embedded program. From what I can gather, I have to copy the icra.rat file and put it into the win32 folder somewhere. Just curious if that rating system will be exclusive to his log in or if it will cover everyone?

You are probably going to find out that you may have to loosen your criteria even for a youngster. The settings are kind of "all or nothing" Not much room unless you continually add allowable sites that you feel are kid friendly.

Good choice on staying with the built in program, stay away from any Norton product at all costs. That being said I have no idea where you have to put the file.

I thought I had- pretty much just banned sex and nudity, and went with very few limitations on anything else. Still couldn't pull up the default home page (MSN)
