    Samsung Moment question

Anyone else here have the Samsung Moment? I just got one on Wednesday, and it's my first smart phone, so I'm sure I'm missing something, or I have to tweak some settings, but the battery life seems horrible. It gives me a low battery warning after about 4 hours of just sitting on my desk at work.

What can I do to prolong the battery life on this phone? A friend recommend getting the Advanced Task Killer app which apparently closes apps that are not being used. Any other advice? If this is normal for this phone, I may just return it. Thanks in advance.

You need to turn off the wifi, gps, and download a few apps to manage the tasks.

First one you want to download is "Advanced Task Killer" it will kill everything that is not needed to run your phone. One rule of thumb is keep your phone plugged in, as the phones get more advance the battery life gets shorter. It is the same for any kind of smart phone, but by turning off the wifi and gps you will extend your battery life by about 40%.

They released a new service pack for the OS that was supposed to fix the battery life issue...I know they released another one last week that I haven't installed yet...again to help with battery life.

    Re: Samsung Moment question

That is incredibly bad. Make sure you aren't leaving any applications running in the background, especially anything that uses the GPS like Google Maps. I have a Motorola Droid and I typically get 2-3 days of light use out of the phone. If I use it a lot, I get about 1 day.

I'm not sure about plugging it in all the time though, that actually reduces battery life for most batteries. The user's manual typically says you should let the battery become fully depleted before charging it up again or the battery will get a memory of that lesser amount of charge.

Dumb question, but how do I access the service packs?

    Re: Samsung Moment question

As cjb said, make sure wifi and gps are off. They may be set to on by default, I'm not sure I've never used a Moment. These things are total battery hogs on any cell phone and you don't want them on if you aren't using them.

The next thing to look at is any apps or email that could be loading data in the background. This could be a weather app, or a facebook widget, or even email. Turn off automatic updates or at least reduce the frequency of how often these things update. Do you really need your weather or facebook statuses to update every 5 minutes, or could you do 30 minutes or an hour? Or even have them just load on demand when you ask for it.

Other than that, also look at turning off blue-tooth if you aren't using it and lowering the screen brightness. Phone batteries tend to look bad when you first get them as you are playing with all the new features and using them a lot more than you normally will. However, with normal use any smart phone should get you through the day on a change. If you are doing all of these things I would take it back to Sprint and have them take a look at it. They may want to try a different battery or swap it out for a different handset, because you should be getting a lot more than 4 hours on a charge.

I have the latest OS and it hasn't helped all that much. Sometimes just powering the phone off and on seems to help. When it comes to the battery the nice part of this new OS is the option that tells you what is using the battery by percentage. Some of the simplest little free apps that you download will suck the battery dry.
