Fall could be pushing it a little bit after 4 months on the space station - How about our bowl game in Dec/Jan?

Got to give these guys alot of credit. The risks are enough. But can you imagine effectivly not leaving your house for 4 months - at all? No way I could do that - as cool as it would be.

Re: ISU grad is shuttle astronaut

Well, 4 months would put him back on earth sometime the first week or two of October. Plenty of home games left (Oklahoma, K-State & Colorado).

Who knows whether 4 months will turn into 6, etc. I just want to see the guy in Ames at some event where he can be celebrated. For being the first ISU grad in space and for taking a part of the Cyclones with him.

When we went to the Houston Bowl a few years ago, this man gave a tour of NASA to the marching band. How about that for the ultimate nerd dream? Marching band AND astronauts! (I was in marching band, and am in full admission of my nerdiness.)

i'm probably thinking way too hard about this

Re: ISU grad is shuttle astronaut

I'm not sure. I think they just spend a few hours or so doing whatever it is and then they're fine. But I really don't have a clue.

Come on people. They get off the shuttle to a hero's greeting. They walk down the runway, hug their family and friends, meet the adoring crowd and then do what they want to do. Haven't you ever seen "Armageddon?"

Re: ISU grad is shuttle astronaut

You lose quite a bit of muscle and bone mass after four months in space. That combined with the mission debriefing, etc. makes me think getting him right after the mission might be unlikely. They still should do something at some point though.

Re: ISU grad is shuttle astronaut

As a fellow aero grad, I had the chance to meet with him a little in Houston when we were down there for the bowl game. He is an exceptionally nice guy and he does embrace his Cyclone roots. I think getting him back on campus would be great. First Cyclone in space is certainly deserving of some halftime recognition.

Who knows if this is technically possible, but perhaps a live or prerecorded message from space played on the digitron during a timeout would be nice.

Show him in the space station wearing his ISU shirt & hat while waving his pennant.

Re: ISU grad is shuttle astronaut

Funny- the article on him in the Omaha fishwrap doesn't mention that he went to ISU for his masters except in a side column (you really have to look for it) that lists his background. If he were a kNU grad they would have been all over that.

Pretty awesome to have ISU represented in the Int'l Space Station! GO STATE!!

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.
