    Bug Talk: Little white-ish moths

Ok, I know theres are 1 or 2 bug guys on here after the Japanese beetle thread.

I have these little white-ish moths that fly up everywhere in my yard as I walk across it. I let probably 10 of them in the house inadvertantly last night letting the dog in - had a late night moth swatting party.

Are these things bad? should I be trying to kill them? I'm thinking maybe this is just the time they moth-ify or something and i've never noticed it before.

no, they will run their course. I noticed the same thing today at a property.

They are baby angels. Killing them is a bad thing to do.

Too small. With BT corn, you don't see the Corn borer moths as much as you used to.

How small are they? You still see corn borer moths around once in a while.. Agreed that its not as high of numbers as there use to be.

They're about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of a corn borer moth. Pale white color.

Well that's interesting. Learned two things in that article. Didn't realize Marlin Rice is at Pioneer now. They got a good one there....

Marlin was one of the best for ISU extension. I'm afraid he and Palle Pedersen both saw the writing on the wall in regards to funding at the University level and took jobs within the Ag Industry. He at Pioneer and Palle at Syngenta

You may be describing the sod webworm adult. It flys over the lawn in the summer laying eggs that produce the larvae that cause some lawn dammage. They are grey to white in color and about 1/2 inch long

Yes Yes. Palle is a huge loss for ISU too. Really sad to see the University lose two such outstanding professors.

Agreed. Palle was a huge loss, but they are trying to replace him at least. I thought they might just forget it and let the position go, but thankfully not. Rice's replacement is Erin Hodgson and based off the small interaction I've had with her, she'll be a good one.
