Time-Warner vs. Disney/ESPN/ABC rhetoric heating up

The carriage agreement between TW and Disney expires at the beginning of next month, and there is not a new deal in-place. The rhetoric is heating up, with numerous ads running by both sides here and in other TW service areas.

Time Warner, Disney draw battle lines | greenbaypressgazette.com | Green Bay Press Gazette

Could TW really afford to drop Disney for awhile?

Would the potential loss in advertising revenue from getting knocked off a major cable carrier be enough to make Disney take a lesser fee for ABC/ESPN etc?

How does this affect the potential TV offer that the Big 12 might get from ABC/ESPN when negotiating starts soon? Could reduced revenue from a negative TW/Disney agreement affect what ABC/ESPN could offer the Big 12?

Probably, TW will just pay what Disney wants, jack up their rates a little, eat a little bit of it, and all will be well...

Sadly, carriers don't have too much choice with ESPN. Bend over for ESPN. Proceed to bend over customers.

My understanding is that ESPN is A LOT more expensive than everything else on cable. I'd really like to see a pay-per-channel option. I could drop espn for 8 months out of the year.

It looks like you are correct...over $4/subscriber...

ESPN likely at center of next carriage fight

This article has a nice chart of what a cable company pays to carry each network. It is from 2008, but I would guess the relation of where each network is in the pecking order has pretty much remained the same.

Crazy that ESPN's charge doesn't even include ESPN2. Some of these are so stupid. Tennis channel for 27 cents? Who the hell watches Tennis?
