Other than a few miscues here and there, not a bad assessment. They have the right side of the line jacked up on the depth chart though.

It's funny how the experts say the win over Nebraska was a miracle brought about by a fluky turnover fest, but they always forget to mention that Iowa State played the entire game without it's starting quarterback or the #1 running back in the conference.

When we beat the Huskers in Ames this fall, I wonder what the experts will attribute that win to.

I too have been noticing writers failing to bring up the back-up QB/RB play for us in that game.... and making it all sound like luck. It has been outragious. Again, no one is EVER going to respect ISU. Heck, if we got to the B12 title game somehow with a decent record.....they would just say the B12 is very DOWN this year....

Unsung star on the rise: Sophomore RB Beau Blankenship

OK, how in the world did they come up with this? What has Beau done to catch the attention of CFN?

They do talk about Tiller starting against Nebraska. Overall, about the best assessment I've seen from CFN. They stepped it up big time from last year. Probably about as good as can be expected from them.

    Re: CFN ISU Preview

Though, I must say, this write up was not bad for a look at the season. I just feel that that huge Nebraska win should be highlighted better, that is, bring up the back-ups and determination to win that game.

I agree that the K-State game is the biggest for the year. It would be nice to be 2-0 going into Farmageddon. But if we are 1-1 a loss there and we could be 0-4 in conference to start out. That just looks terrible. It also would hurt our morale.....if we can be 3-1 at least heading into the Tech game....I would be feeling a lot better. I tell ya, our boys have the K-State and KU games circled on the calendar this year. Both were heartbreakers last year.....it really is time to send it to these foes in particular.

Strength: The coverage teams. They were fantastic last season allowing just 2.2 yards per punt return and 18.1 yards per kickoff return. Field position is a must for the Cyclones, and they should be ahead of the curve here.

Wow, our kick coverage was outstanding last year.

Too bad our best special teams guys, Klein and Knott are now our starters at LB. Maintaing that quality of coverage depends on who replaces them. I can see George stepping up there.

You didn't realize that last year? Seriously we talked about it all the time on this board.

Anyway, I have to say they were very positive about the offense making it sound like it may easily be the best offence in the North if AA does better and everyone stays healthy. They were very down on the defense, as we are all concerned, but I just have to remember how concerned we all were last year. Wally did a great job at using our strengths to our advantage and I think we will see similar play this year. All in all, I'm encouraged.

Nebraska looking past us or team-wide spastic colon.

I think he wrote that first part in early June. Last time I checked, the Big 12's top teams weren't going anywhere.

I do remember the games thinking we were good, I just hadn't seen it quantified before.

Just so you know I was trying to critizing you, I just thought it odd that another old timer of the site like yourself didn't know that.
