    Bad day gone good

It's amazing what one little song can do as you awake in the morning.

So, today I woke up at 5AM for work to the sound of thunder and lightening and started to groan for two reasons. The first was that I must have fallen asleep sometime between 9 and 10 last night at my girlfriend's place because I was planning on coming back home to re-draft a paper after the show "After the Catch" finished up. The second was that the instant I heard the thunder and rain, I remembered that I never rolled up my windows in my car since I was planning on driving back home. So, as I start up my soggy car, the radio turns on (last dialed to 100.3 The Bus (classic rock station in Ames)), and [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MuGGQhnJCY"]THIS SONG[/ame] begins to play, and my day is instantly amazing. Even though the tune was stuck in my head all day, it travelled through everyone else at work, and by noon, we were all whistling it. As an added bonus, as the evening shift came in, they heard the tune, and it got stuck with them as well. It was a good day because of one simple song...

We didn't Start the Fire??? Sorry, but for those of us who lived through the constant radio and MTV play of that song may disagree with you on it's ability to brighten a dreary day. But since you stated that you watch The Deadliest Catch, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on the song.

I was only 4 when the song originally came out, so I have no idea about the overplaying of the song. However, you can't deny how cheery the tune of it is. Oh, and Deadliest Catch is the greatest show on TV. Period!

I don't see what's so great about that song.... It's just a bunch of names to a strophic melody a whole ton of times in a row. I usually like Billy Joel, but this one doesn't do anything for me.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Well, I don't see what's so great about you, but you don't see me complaining.... Oops!

Sign me up for that song and Break on through to the Other Side. The song I heard the other day that made drivinmg easier was Sister Christian/ Motoring - that was the one written about the Night Ranger's drummer sister.

Not sure "We didn't start the fire" would quite do it for me.

However, whenever I hear Rob Zombie's "Dragula," Godsmack's "Voodoo," or pretty much anything by Chevelle, Korn, Tool, or A Perfect Circle, my day is instantly better

I like most of those bands better than Billy Joel, with the exception of Korn. I'd throw Manson in there as well, but just like TOOL and APC, the lyrics about our corrupt society is just depressing.

Maynard is the man. Tool is playing in Cedar Rapids in a couple weeks but I won't be able to make it. I've seen Tool in Cedar Rapids and Ames, and A Perfect Cirle in Minneapolis. The live shows are outstanding if you ever get the chance.

I saw APC in CR a couple years back, I think it was a couple months after "Thirteenth Step" was released. It was good, but Maynard was too laid back on stage, and didn't have much of a stage presence, which was a disappointment.

I've heard they put on great shows, and I've wanted to go to one, but marriage has a way of draining $$$

However, marriage does have it's advantages

When that song came out, one reviewer said the only thing good about it is that it proved Billy Joel had listened to an REM album.

The best version of that song was by Dwight Shrute on "The Office".

Yeah, Maynard likes to stay in the background. He draws all his energy from the crowd - if he doesn't think they're feeling it, then he doesn't either. In CR (Tool) the crowd was good and so was he. In Ames (Tool) the crowd was mediocre and he seemed upset about it. In Minneapolis (APC), the crowd was incredible and he was awesome.
