    Kansas City

Ok, I realize we are not Kansas or Kansas State, but we were in Kansas City this past weekend and in most shops I did not see any Iowa State gear. Here is what I did see- Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Iowa. Do they not realize how many Cyclone fans live or visit Kansas City? It made me really realize that Iowa State is really on there own with there marketing our university.

Hell, it's hard to find ISU gear in Northwest Iowa.

Welcome to my world. I would guess that KC leads in online mail orders from the university shops, or we all get back up there a lot, as there is certainly enough ISU shirts, caps, sweaters, etc walking around the area.

Try living in the Quad Cities. Although Dick's Sporting Goods does have some gear.

I'd say Sioux City is as bad or worse than the QC. Do you typically see an NU section as big as the Iowa section? It's brutal.

    Re: Kansas City

Pretty tough with three local teams, owners probably feel the hassle of one more line is too much for the amount of sales.

Another reason KC sucks. That city really is run by KU and K-State alum who are really annoying.

What exactly happened when we moved to the Nike Elite status? I thought that would make a lot more nice mechandise available at least online.

Wow, who would have thought a city 20 miles from Lawrence would be full of KU fans. In other news, there are a lot of NU fans in Omaha and we also have reason to believe that there area a large number of OU fans in Oklahoma City.

Yeah, but there aren't any Baylor fans in Austin - odd, I wonder why?

KC used to fancy itself the capital of the Big 8, it not unreasonable to expect to see more than KSU and KU stuff. There are also many, many ISU engineers and architects living and working there (and many ISU grads there generally), it's a legit ***** to want to have more ISU stuff available but at the same time there has to be incentive to carry ISU stuff. My advice, complain. The more of us that do; the greater liklihood you see more gear. I got sick of going to Scheels up here and not finding ISU stuff so I *****ed. They probably blew me off but at least I spoke up...

The clerk probably just wanted to bust his balls since he didn't even know that it was supposed to be "UK" for Kentucky and wanted a hat

Im just glad I have Homan as my bodyguard, Eustachy joked. If I ever make it real big and get to drive a limo everyday, hell be driving it. I thought he came off the bench like somebody was stealing his cow or something.

    Re: Kansas City

Past sales of licensed product in a store, or market, dictate the licenses that stores carry going forward. If ISU product was turning (selling) in the KC area, more stores would carry it......

From a marketing stand point, there isn't much for ISU to do, other than Win......and stick with a logo, colors.

Also, for a market like KC, ISU would be a fringe license. The people the carried ISU product as a fringe inventory item, probably got stuck marking down (sale) the old logo. A lot of companies probably want to make sure this logo direction is going to stick before investing in more inventory.

Wow...thank you for that wealth of knowledge!

KC has most every regional team covered except ISU. With the amount of alumni that live there and it's proximity to Ames...one would think they would cover ISU in some fashion.

Almost as much knowledge as letting us know that KC is full of KU and KSU fans, hard to compete with that!

I am an ISU alum that has been living in KC for the last 3 years, and honestly I don't think that the availability of ISU stuff here is all that bad. Most of the sports stores I have shopped at have had a section of ISU stuff that is on par for other out of state schools.

It is hard to expect too much when ISU is miles behind KU, KSU, and Mizzou in the market, and also probably behind NU, OU, and Iowa. When you start talking about the number 7 or 8 school in a market, you aren't going to find stores just stuffed with merchandice. How much Okie State stuff can you find for sale in Des Moines?
