    Computer help

Somehow I've gotten a nasty virus on my desktop. It claims I need to "clean the virus" using Antivir software I can "conveniently" install for a low price.

I looked up the Antivir and its a complete BS program and found a download for the fix. The problem is I can find all that info on my laptop, but if I go to that site on my computer thats infected it says every single website is infected and moves me to advertisements.

Any help on how to remove this??? Do I need to be in safe mode? Help!!

If you haven't been in safe mode yet, try it.

When I hard shut off my computer (Hold down the power button) and turn it back on, it gives me the option to start in safe mode.

IDK, you might want to wait until a better computer expert contributes..

    Re: Computer help

F8 should give you the windows boot options, aka safe mode.

what you need to do is get on a different computer, download Malbytes Anti Malware (just google mbam), throw it on a flash drive, and then install and run that from safe mode on the problem computer.

I don't do signatures. Blondes, brunettes, and red heads are a different story.

    Re: Computer help

Safe mode with networking and melware bytes should fix it. That virus will enable a proxy server in your IE sometimes, make sure to remove the proxy server also.

Sometimes it also gets into your master boot record, but the odds are pretty low.

Let us know if you are still have issues though.

    Re: Computer help

Sorry I'm really admitting the fact that I know nothing about computers, but how do
    I check and/or remove a proxy server?

in IE, tools > internet options > connections tab > lan settings > then uncheck anything under a proxy server
