    Re: John Deere

What division? Are you going looking at credit, branch, etc?

I work for Credit and one of my best friends works at the factory in Ankeny. Both of us love it. A lot of people bag on the health plan because it's a high deductible plan but nothing could be better for a young healthy person. Put cash into your HSA to start, you won't regret it one bit.

I have worked for another big finance company in town and it doesn't even compare. Part of it is that I grew up in a small ag community and I have a great respect for Deere and the product we put out. People may not think so but believing in your work gives you a lot of job satisfaction.

You won't regret a career at Deere, I will say that.

    Re: John Deere

I know a few people that work for Deere and they absolutely love it. Some have been there for over 40 years and a few are recent college grads. Best chances are, they have no intention of leaving. Benefits are fantastic and it's a very stable job. All around great company.

Deere benefits have changed big time in the last couple years. Good company and has a lot of ISU grads.

Great place to work and great benefits.

Also incredibly stable over the past couple years which was nice compared to other companies.

    Re: John Deere

I've had my eye on a position at the Ottumwa plant and have never got so much as my foot in the door.

My father in law works there and while he pretty much hates it (don't most all factory workers?) he has made an amazing living with virtually no education. People would crap if they knew what he makes painting hay bailers.

    Re: John Deere

A lot of my best friends work for them(I don't).

My sense is they get worked very hard, but they get paid very well.

Great company. I've tried pushing my wife to go to work for them.

If he's been there since before 1997 then he probably makes close to 100k a year. No offense to him, but I hate those old bastards! I'm just jealous.
