    Starting position battles?

With practice starting up on Monday, who do you think will be fighting for a starting spot? Obviously our punting situation is still up in the air (no pun intended). We have a lot of talented wideouts but do you have our starting 3 yet? Defensive line should have some battles going on too. Thoughts?

I think that our biggest battles this fall will be at RG, FS, P and KR/PR. RG should probably be Hicks, but you never know how much rust he has to knock off or how good of shape he's in. Maybe Caspers/Bykowski/Lichtenburg/Tuftee make a run at being the 5th OL (at whatever position). FS will be interesting. Will O'Connell keep the spot? How much pressure do Brooks, Givens, Broomfield, Washington put on him? P, the key is VanDerKamp's handling the pressure. If he is consistant, he will start. If he screws up often enough, I think that he redshirts. KR/PR is going to be a free-for-all. They have Johnson, Lenz, Sims and Reynolds listed in the two deep. But, we could always see Young and Gary show up there. I think that Gary would make an excellent KR. Lenz probably has the PR position locked I'm guessing.

    Re: Starting position battles?

I think our LB's are pretty well set. Sounds like Lattimer could be in the DE rotation as well as backing up LB. I look for Jeremiah George to possibly get PT as well. Defensive backfield is pretty well established with Johnson and Benton at the CB's and Reeves and Young getting significant PT. D-Line is probably where the biggest battles will take place. You have Rashawn Parker at DE. Along with Neal/Maggitt. Hopefully Rony Nelson will be ther as well. DT will probably have McDonough at one spot. And Rump/Johnson at the other. At safeties, we have a good rotation going there. I think our DBackfield is the strength of our defense. Hopefully we will be serviceable on the DLine. Everyone says to not worry about the LB's but we are really young there.

O'Connell is a lock for FS. The guy is a Captain.

Wookie on Squirell I believe is starting at TE, but maybe Robocop on Unicorn can push him?

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

What I like is a lot of strating positions are assumed. Not a lot of change and those players can fine tune thigns rather than learn how to play together.

I am more interested inthe 2nd team battles. Safety has me worried. our starters are good but our 2nd string has little to no experience.

Starting battles for me to watch
DT- Ruemp and Johnson. I hope this battle goes on and on and on.
DE- Is Nelson here? is he an impact player? Or do we go with a platoon of smaller quicker guys
MLB-Klein is listed at SAM but I see him moving in with the nickel. is George impressive enough that he foregos redshirt and plays?
CB- Who plays when Benton moves into his hybrid role? Young, Reeves, Watson?
WR- where does Reynolds end up. Can Young and Gary secure PT? Can somone become a difference maker? Can someone get off the line when they are punched in the mouth?

    Second string battles
OL- The whole OL. Who separates themself and becomes the 6th/7th best OL
RB- Does someone separate from the pack to secure that 2nd team spot?

    "Not at the table Carlos."

Didn't Coach say during the Big 12 media conference that VanDerKamp has the position?

I think it is VDKs position to lose, but if he is a major choke artist, he will get bumped.

He might have, I don't recall hearing that though. I just looked at VanDerKamp's bio on Cyclones.com and it says he was born in 1994, so that would make him 16 years old?

I remember him saying that we would have a true Freshman punter, and that would kick Kuehl off the ticket.

That doesn't always mean he is guaranteed starting. If another player proves he's better at the position, I'll take the guy whos better then a guy whos captain.

My guess is that he will start and if there is someone who is really pushing him, then they will rotate more often and both get a lot of reps.

Don't bank on MOC starting. Also, the starting OL will be KO-Alvarez-Lamaak-Hicks-Burris.

NHL teams need to be added to the favorite teams section.
