    CNNSI Story about Jeremiah Masoli

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/201...oli/index.html

I think this story provides a good lesson why you have to have players with high integrity in your team.

That is a great article, and I think it highlights how easily situations involving college athletes can get overblown.

I'm still baffled why he pleaded guilty. If he didn't do it, he should have fought tooth and nail against the charges.

He said in the story that by pleading guilty he assured himself of a minimal punishment. If he were to fight tooth and nail but somehow lose, even if thats only a 1% chance, he would go to jail for a minimum of 2 years.

Pay $2,500 to absolutely not go to jail, or take that risk? I would have done the same.

It's interesting knowing all the details but this article is written with such bias towards Masoli that it's hard to see it as an objective opinion. Mentioning that one of the guys who said Masoli didn't commit the robbery in high was an army vet, that all his teammates think he's a good guy and brushing off his marijuana ticket aren't going to make me feel sorry for him.

How the hell did he even get charged? The evidence is circumstantial at best.

Prison time is a scary thing to gamble with. It doesn't sound like he had the world's greatest lawyer either.

I also have issue on how he was portrayed as a saint. He put himself in the situation he wasn't supposed to be. Also, why he had to lie the first time. That's why the fact that he pled guilty doesn't make sense to me - if he wasn't guilty, he should've fought tooth and nail.

I agree that he should have fought it, but he handled it badly in a number of other ways as well, and now he's paying the price.

He admitted in the article that he has been putting himself in bad situations. IMO, that's a good start to turning his life around.

I wasn't sure to believe but here's a source... ESPN It would be interesting to see how his style of play would fit in the SEC and their physical defense.

It's not always that cut and dry. I'd take a guaranteed fine and probation for something I didn't do any day over the possibility of sitting in jail for 2 years.

That and lieing to the police in the first place. he should have actually helped the kid cath the guy. Seriously if he is on his third strike, he can't let the marijuana in the car. Whether it was his or his buddy.
