    Any Weimaraner owners?

We have had ours about a month and a half and he was one year when we got him. Absolutely love the breed!!! Extremely smart, loyal, and they are great looking dogs! He also keeps us very active...

My question is, what food do you feed your weim and/ or other large breed dog? Weims, particularly ours, are known to be gassy! I'm not looking to go science diet or anything but something decent that will help control gas...

    Thoughts? Thanks!

I feed my shorthair Purina one Lamb and Rice. She loves it, although she does get gassy at times still. It is better than others I have had her on.

We have owned a few Weims over the years. Weims sure have their quirks (mostly separation anxiety), but I couldn't see myself owning another breed. For dog food; I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Royal Canin or if you are on a budget we have had good results with IAMs large breed. Our second Weim experienced a bout of pancreatitis when we tried switching him to Eukanuba from IAMs.

    Re: Any Weimaraner owners?

My parents have one, and I'm pretty sure they just feed her pretty standard adult dog food, one of the major brands like Pedigree. I'd say our boxer is more gassy than the Weim.

Here's a couple articles I found on a google search:

I've wanted one for soooo long. We live in an apartment so we got a Springer Spaniel to cure our 'dog fix'. But as soon as we move into a house with a yard, i am getting one! It wouldnt be fair to the dog to make it live in an apartment, not enough room to run.

Gotta love bringing a puppy up in life, but also have been considering rescueing a Weim.

We have a Vizsla - very similar to Weim's

We're using Science Diet - Active Breed formula. No issues.

Read the ingredients on the bag you are buying for your dog.

Meat should always be the lead / predominant ingredient.

Keep grains at a minimum and if it has grain make sure it's oatmeal, rice or another grain that is not corn.

very good advice broodwich - grain should be way down the list, and too commonly with dog food, even the perceived goodstuff like the referenced 'science diet', it is highly made with corn, or other grains dogs can't digest, and/or have allergic reactions to.

where do you buy your before grain food?
