    Cubs Fans

How do you feel about Derrick Lee turning down a trade to the Angels? I'm sure the get you would have gotten would have been very good, but Lee has meant so much to that team and is a leader in the clubhouse.

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Lee won't be a Cub next year, and who cares what he is like in the clubhouse. Can't be that great given the performance of this team this year.

so are you ****** that he turned down the trade? Something is better than nothing in a season where you aren't going to win the World Series.

The Cubs wouldn't have gotten anything fantastic. Nothing Trout-like for sure.

Well, he was a contributor in getting Zambrano benched for the past month. That's something.

Otherwise, we'd probably be 12-13 out instead of the 9.5 we are right now...

He needs to go as does most of the team. Hendry needs to be gone as well. Time to clean the slate and start new. This team is going no where fast and will continue to do so if they don't get rid of the over paid, old talent, that is 2+ years past their prime.

ya, baseball is to boring to follow more than one team. But since they are doing so bad it should be easy to get some cheap tickets to get drunk in the bleachers when I head there for work in a few weeks.

in defense of Hendry he did make a deal to get something for Lee and Lee used his 10 and 5 to turn it down

    Re: Cubs Fans

Lee is not a leader, he's just a good guy in the clubhouse who guys respect. A leader would actually be more vocal than he is and be a guy not scared to call out his teammates once in awhile. I think he's screwing the Cubs in this situation, unless he takes a big cut next season he won't be back and he has the chance to play for possibly a contender and is turning that chance down. Most guys in his situation wouldn't pass up the opportunity to be traded from a team going no where to a playoff contender in the final year of their contract. Cubs could at least get a couple young prospects out of it and shed a little salary if he'd agree to be traded.

    ^^THIS^^

That being said, respecting a guy doesn't really do you any good when it comes to on the field performance.

Well - I don't know this is why for certain - but D Lee has some family issues and a daughter with some pretty serious health concerns.

Not up an moving or being away for 3 months may be a contributing factor - and I wouldn't blame him for such reasoning.

Ha. The record of the team on the field hasn't mattered over the last 25 years when it comes to fans in the stands. The Cubs are a tourist attraction more than a baseball team. There is a reason why I hear more people say "I'm going to Wrigley" than "I'm going to a Cubs game".
