    Farmageddon: Trophy Game?

This was touched on in other thread, but I wanted to see what everyone thinks with a poll.

Based off CPR's comments yesterday about how much he likes neutral games at NFL stadiums and the proposed new scheduling system of 4 home/4 away/1 neutral, it looks like Farmageddon may become permanent at Arrowhead. So what does everyone think of adding a traveling trophy to Farmageddon? And if yes, what should the trophy be?

Personally, I love the idea of a trophy. New traveling trophies are added quite often (Clemson/BC in 2008, Cincy/Pitt in 2005, and Iowa/Wisky in 2004) and traditions have to start somewhere. List of College Rivalry and Trophies

So, how about a John Deere steel plow? Either an actually plow or a bronze replica mounted on a base. John Deere revolutionized agriculture in 1837 with the Steel Plow. Plows before then were made of cast-iron and often broke. The steel was more durable and changed agriculture by allowing thousands of acres of prairie to be turned into farmland. The steel plow also launched John Deere into a agriculture powerhouse that developed the first tractor. The plow was used extensively in Iowa and Kansas and was encouraged so much during the Homestead Act that the government told people that "Rain Follows the Plow." Meaning that rain would come water the crops if the ground was plowed. The plow had a huge impact on the development of Iowa and Kansas. Plus, John Deere could sponsor the game/trophy for money.

So what do you guys and gals think? Yes, No, Maybe?

It should be two tractors facing each other. Each tractor has the emblem of the school. The middle could be an arrowhead or left blank.

I think corn (Iowa) and wheat (Kansas) should somehow be incorporated into the trophy seeing as how they are the two crops each state is known for. I also like the idea of a tractor pull theme.

I love this idea, including a bunch of corn growing out of the "ground" on the ISU side and a bunch of wheat growing on the KSU side. It could be a pretty sweet trophy.

I love the idea. Cincy/Pitt is a GREAT example that rivalries CAN be created quickly. They've been in the same conference for 5 years and there's already a good rivalry. We've been playing K-State for 100 years. Let's get this done.

    Re: Farmageddon: Trophy Game?

I think a trophy would be cool, however not an old steel plow. I think that would look funny to people out of state as in "oh look Iowa people still use steel plows pulled by horses and have no electricity" plus I doubt Jon Deere would do it.

How about something more modern still based on ag.

I agree. I stated this last year when this was brought up for the "Farmageddon" game. ISU-KSU should be a HUGE rivalry. I really want to beat those suckers for the way the game went "down" last year at the very end of the game. I hope our guys have that DATE circled on the calendar. I want K-State to go down.....huge, huge game for us this year. (The game of the year IMO.....everything will hinge on a big win there.)

Also, if Iowa-Nebraska tries to steal that name....I will be ticked. I hope we have it copyrighted. We came up with it first. Has anyone else heard of that being thrown around by those lame fanbases?

I like the idea of the trophy being a bowl with an ear of corn laying out one side and a shock of wheat out the other.

Time to commission some students over at the Design College to design this thing. I like the idea. I think KSU makes more sense than anyone in terms of a logical rival- one that could actually go both ways.

    Re: Farmageddon: Trophy Game?

I doubt that Farmageddon will have life after this fall. Yes, I agree that ISU needs a true conference rival and with Nebraska leaving, none is left. A KSU-ISU rivalry will most likely not develop. KSU fans have no hatred, nor even animosity directed towards ISU. There is no special joy in defeating ISU. ISU, in Manhattan, is viewed as a sister school where the buildings are constructed of brick instead of limestone. Having spent many years around both schools, I can guarantee you that they have way more similarities than differences academically, culturally, and socially. Most KSU fans actually cheer for ISU when the Clones are not playing KSU.

ISU feels the exact same way about KSU. That's why this could be a lot of fun. I've been to Manhattan, and thought the fans seemed like pretty good people.

A friendly rivalry where you can talk **** before the game and drink a beer with them afterwards.

Who's KSU's big conference rival? KU seems far more concerned with Missouri (who is technical a rival of ISU). I think ISU and KSU should come together on this.
