Proposed Big 12 schedule for 2011

    Heard an interesting proposal
With 9 league games instead of alternating years with 4 and 5 home games, do 4-4 and 1 mandatory neutral site. Six teams already do this
    OU-TU at Jerry World
    KU-MU at Kaufman south
    Farmagedon at Kaufman south

    Leaving: BU TT oSu aTm

    My suggestion
BU and TT at the Alamo Dome
oSu(the former Oklahoma A&M) and aTm at Jerry World as the undercard for the RRR

    Thoughts?

I've been saying this for a while. Baylor vs. Tech is at the Cotton Bowl this season too, so only the OSU vs. A&M game would have to be moved to a neutral site. Jerryworld most likely.

It balances the schedules and adds revenue lost from the Big 12 championship game. Its a no brainer IMO.

It makes so much sense to have the last week (or two) of the year be

    Mizzou - Kansas (Border War)
Texas - Texas A&M (Lone Star Showdown)
    Oklahoma - Oklahoma State (Bedlam)
Iowa State - Kansas State (Farmageddon)
Texas Tech - Baylor (Some Catchy Name)

Re: Proposed Big 12 schedule for 2011

I hadn't heard of the neutral-site proposal, but it makes sense considering several are already in place.

That would have an advantage of the balanced home-and-home schedules instead of 5-4/4-5. If we keep Iowa, it'd have to be an away game during seasons when ISU would be 5 home/4 away.

I agree. Lone Star Showdown on Thanksgiving night. Farmageddon on Friday of Thanksgiving. Then a triple header of the Border War, Bedlam, and Tech vs. Baylor on Saturday of Thanksgiving.

The BUTT Bowl was at jerryworld last year and, as said, cotton bowl this year. I haven't seen any plans to continue it neutral so far.

I'd like to see ISU-KSU as a double header with KU-Mizzou. That would be a fun couple FB games to watch and bring a ton of people to KC.

I could see the OSU/aTm game rotate between Dallas and Houston too.

Ok.... Why not make it a rotating schedule for mandatory neutral site games? I think that could make things a lot more interesting. Obviously for ISU... the idea of playing KSU at Arrowhead every year doesn't really excite me.

I also think it would be fun to see OU and Texas to have to play against one another on their home fields for a change. I think a rotating schedule for those games would be a little more interesting.

That would be sweet. ISU-KSU game at 11 and KU-MU game at 7.

That field would be absolutely destroyed. I was shocked last season at how crappy the playing surface was at Arrowhead. I guess they might want to think about employing some of the guys that take care of the JTS turf to help theirs out. JTS has one of the finest natural surfaces in the country.

Having been on both fields, I can say that they are just totally different animals. The field at JTS is just like a really nice version of my backyard. It is a longer, thicker grass. The field at Arrowhead is really more like a putting green on a golf course. It is more of a green sponge than grass. That is really the best way I can explain it. I suppose it combines the speed of turf with the soft and forgiving nature of grass (and no stupid rubber pellets!). However, it certainly isn't as sturdy as the field at JTS. And its ability to hold up to a double header would be a question.
