    Moving out of our apartment

so we're moving out of our apartment and trying to make it look as nice as possible so we get the full deposit back. im using spackling on the nail holes but they still show quite a bit. is that natural or do i need to do something else to make the wall look normal. any other ideas that you guys have done when moving out of an apartment that might be helpful? any ideas are appreciated

No matter what amount of work you put in, good luck getting your deposit back.

Paint the walls. Just get some cheap *** paint. Doing that is better than losing your depo over the walls looking bad. They will find something wrong anyway.

Re: Moving out of our apartment

If you aren't very good with keeping the spackel in the immediate hole area, the area around it will need texture. Also, you could ask your landlord for some paint. I know ours had plenty on hand and gave us a small can to do touchup work where needed. We had a few larger holes from running cable to the bedrooms, but it was patched fine and after painting you couldn't tell.

So true. Have never gotten a deposit back from any apartment I've rented from anywhere. The office will always find something "wrong" with your apartment.

Yeah, just accept that you are not going to get your deposit back and save yourself the time of cleaning.

I have never lost more than $100 of my deposit, and I have lived in 4 different places in Ames (Jensen and Haverkamp). If you put the work in, you will get the $ back.

Re: Moving out of our apartment

I got a full deposit back from an apartment that I did no cleaning at all and left stuff I didnt want in the apartment. The lady that worked there really "liked" me.

The same place didnt give a dime back to my 2 friends that lived there and spent a week cleaning and shampooing carpets ect.

I think it's a toss up as to if you get the money back.

I think Mark Grace referred to this as a "slump buster", but all the power to you!

Re: Moving out of our apartment

Read your lease - I had one apartment where the carpets had to be professionally cleaned, or they would charge you to clean them and take the money from the deposit. Lived in a townhouse where they charged me for a missing slat on some blinds on a sliding glass door because I didn't note it was missing when I moved in. Have you tried using white toothpaste to fill the nail holes? If the walls are white, it will blend in better and you won't notice it as much.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

In college I never got deposits back. Since college, I have gotten my entire deposit back on every place I have lived.

"I wanna kiss you all over... and over and over" - but that wasn't the landlord.

Re: Moving out of our apartment

When they walk through the apartment, how long does it take? I'm planning on walking with my landlord (University West). Is it kinda just a quick look room to room, or do they try and find anything, no matter how small it is?
