Someone give me something to be excited about!

Why should I be getting excited for football this fall... besides just having lots of fun before the game of course?

There hasn't been much good news lately.

First we lost Haughton, then Alburtis quit, and now it seems quite likely we lost our biggest playmaker on defense as well in Sims. Not only that, but Rony Nelson now isn't listed on the roster yet either. Add that to the fact that we have the toughest schedule in the entire country and it isn't pretty folks.

This defense was already the weak link, and that was with Alburtis and Sims... and possibly Nelson. Now it's nearly completely decimated. You have to really feel for all the defensive coaches.

So... someone give me a reason to be excited again. I desperately need it!!!

Re: Someone give me something to be excited about!

How about the Offense? I think we give up 7-10 more points a game this year with our defense. Last year our defense was good at keeping the score down. They made plays to keep points off the board. I don't think this years group will be able to do that as consistently as last years. So, the offense is going to have to score more. We thought that would have to be the case last year, but it was the defense that kept us in some games while the offense was sputtering. This year, the offense HAS TO STEP UP. Otherwise, yes this year is not going to be very good if it can't. I think the O. will be exciting to watch, they just need to score at least an additional 7-10 more points a game us in some.

right now is when we really need to back way off on expectations, I think this is going to be a very long year and we are going to have a lot of points scored against us

Is this just a matter of him completing his school requirements first before they can officially add him to the roster?

Also, I tend to agree about lowering our expectations a bit. I think the best we can hope for is 6 wins with this schedule. I'd take that in a second if you told me I could take that right now.

But this will not be a bad year for Rhoads and company if they only win 3 or 4 games. We just have to remember that. Obviously after last year we were hoping for better than that, but the schedule is just so much more difficult this year.

The offense hasn't lived up to its expectations for the last 4yrs. I really hope this Fall is a breakthrough....will have to wait and see.

need to start thinking about switching some offense players to defense like TE OL RB to DL and LB

I always thought Hammerschmidt would end up being a DE, but obviously that isn't going to happen. I don't think we have any OL that can play DT?

Maybe Howard will be a DE?

I hope so too, but we're playing alot of good defenses. Even if it is vastly improved, I'm not sure we'll see a whole lot more points scored. I think the best we could hope for is another 7 ppg, which based on last years stats would put us around the middle of the conference in scoring.

Re: Someone give me something to be excited about!

i am lowering my expectations for this team. it really angers me to do so. But i think i have to. 4 wins now looks probable.

you know, it sucks. i will probably be at every home game. cheering, only to expect to lose?

Re: Someone give me something to be excited about!

Get excited about the fact that the Cyclones appear to have a legitimate shot at getting a commitment from Sam Richardson (QB), Winter Park, Florida. Some Recruiting analysts have Sam ranked as the fourth best QB in the State of Florida (class of 2011). IMO, this has the potential to be as big a deal as getting the commitment from Shontrelle Johnson.
