Are the Hawkeye's "All That" in a top hat?

Even though Iowa isn't playing Ohio St. or Michigan this year, I'd still like to B-slap the 1st Hawk fan who says, "We'd have beaten them anyway... and we should contend for the BCS title!"

Which leads me to my second point. Does anyone agree we should play the Hawkeyes 1st game of the season every year? For the mere fact, we'd have a chance to knock off "somebody's pre-season #1?

Anyone who says the "we would have beaten them anyway" schpiel needs to be politely reminded of how Iowa fared last year against Michigan and OSU, the two teams virtually every EIU homer in America last year were convinced they were going to beat...

Do you really think that would matter?

We're talking about iowa fans here. Every year, there's the usual excuses, if so and so wasn't hurt, if we would've played them later/earlier. So on and so forth.

Using logic and reason on those people is like playing fetch with a blind dog. Oh, sure they have the ability to figure it out and go find the ball, but do you really think it's going to happen?

And Wisconsin. All of which are still on the '07 schedule.

    All teams Iowa lost to.

Forget Michigan and OSU, they couldn't even beat Northwestern, Indiana, or Minnesota last year, let alone Michigan, OSU, or Wisconsin.

I have not heard any Iowa fans say they were going undefeated this year, they lost a lot from last years squad including the best QB in college history.

They're making excuses already....saying their schedule isn't as easy as everyone thinks.

I would have to agree... after two years of mediocrity I'm sure it won't be!!

Re: Are the Hawkeye's "All That" in a top hat?

I'd like to know the areas Iowa improves in for '07. Not QB...running backs are the same. Perhaps a marginal improvement at wide receiver, yet that's just because the guys there are a year older. Tight end isn't an improvement. From what I understand, it's basically the same offensive line unit.

I don't know much about their defense other than Bain is gone.

Really - if fans think Iowa is going to have a great year next year - or even a good one - I think they'll be rather disappointed.

What is it with the Iowa Hawkeye's & some guy named Bain?
(For those of you who don't see the joke here... Jim Bain was a B.B. official back in the early 1980's who made a horrific foul call on Iowa in a game against Purdue, pretty much costing coach Lute Olsen and his Hawkeye's a Big 10 championship) Not that I care, but ohhh how the legend lives on.

Re: Are the Hawkeye's "All That" in a top hat?

Actually, the defense should be a lot better this year. Last year, Mitch King was injured for quite some time, as well as several others at one point or another. The defense saw 13 injuries, and about a half a dozen of those were for multiple weeks. So, Iowa never really had the same defense each game.

The offensive line was one of the best in the BigTen last season, as well as the running back corps. The problem with Iowa's offense last year was that they averaged roughly +4 turnovers per game. But, they were top 3 in the BigTen in rushing, and the WR corps. should be much improved.

They may not have a "great" season, but to expect another "mediocre" season would be naive.

Sorry Southernhawk but have some more black and gold kool-aid.... We had tons of injuries on defense last year. Thats not an excuse. We had a new secondary each week.

The Hawkeyes are middle of the pack Tiny 11 team at best. Which brings me to the belief that Captain Kirk and the Squawkeyes have leveled off and became.... dare I say "MEDIOCRE"

Their O-Line will probably be down with the losses of Yanda, Jones, and Elgin. Hawk homers seem to think the D-Line is one of the best in the nation, yet I disagree. Mattison is a solid consistent performer, but the rest all have their problems. King and Kroul don't really take up blockers and linebackers are blocked downfield. I hope they struggle.
