    RAGBRAI

Since we are just a few days from this starting, thought I would see who all on CF is doing it this year. Once again, I will be driving a support truck.

This year you can start in Sioux City. Not sure where you can start next year yet.

I'd do a section this year if I could, but I have already made plans for a lake vacation during the time ragbrai is. Plus I do not have a street bike, but still using my mountain bike for bike rides.

But lately, I've been biking 7 or 8 miles every ride, and it has got me thinking i want to do ragbrai next year.

I hear the only hill of note is the last day - "Potters Hill"?

supposedly makes that long one outside of Boone look like childs play.

of course there's always the Leoss Hills on the West side - but eveyones used to those by now - just grind 'em out an get it over with.

of course if you're in Colorado none of this will seem like any climb at all

No big deal. Just get some slicks for the mountain bike.

First couple years we rode self-contained on mountain bikes. Not going to say it was easy or fun. But it's doable.

it can be done on a mountain bike - but it hurts more.

your first step is to start calling it a "road bike" not a "street bike"

I did it last year. It was awesome. I loved it. I'll do it again. Not this year, but I'll do it again.

    Re: RAGBRAI

Normally ride a couple days with my parents and friends but this year will not be able to make it.

Looking forward to next year as it will be back in the central route. Will also be taking my son with next year with his new trail-a-bike he got for his birthday.

This will be my 16th year, I think I get a set of steak knives in 2014.

I long ago started riding a mt. bike with a rigid front fork and slicks. Easier to ride over tracks, cracks, gravel, potholes. Easier to ride when I'm drunk. Easier to carry gear. And I don't care if it gets stolen (I've had 2 bikes stolen on RAGBRAI).
