    Donovan pulling a Altman..

ESPN.com: Sources: Donovan trying to get out of Magic deal

Interesting, I have not really heard about this happening that often specially twice in one year. I wonder what the magic will end up doing.

    Re: Donovan pulling a Altman..

Ehhh, I don't know about this one. He should have really thought this through. Pulling out of Arkansas is one thing for Altman, but Donovan pulling out of a coaching contract for a pro team is another.

    Re: Donovan pulling a Altman..

It is a little different than the Altman situation....Altman never signed a contract, Billy did.

    Re: Donovan pulling a Altman..

Frankly, I find the fact that guys like this have the same sort of challenge in working through major life changes that the rest of us do to be comforting. I myself have labored over career choices where there seems to be no clear right answer and it is tough. You often think that things must be easy for guys like Donovan but in the end it is no different than for you are I...except everyone in America that is into sports knows about it with him.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I agree to an extent. I mean the guy had a week to think about it and then signed a contract to coach the Magic.

I'd take the bank the Magic are paying him for a few year and if you succeed, then great. If not, go back to college a lot richer.

    Re: Donovan pulling a Altman..

He's really put himself in a tough situation. If he's forced to honor his contract, the Magic organization will know his heart's not in it and if he is allowed to go back to Florida, other coaches could recruit against him for his lack of decision-making and commitment.

It looks like the Magic are going to let him out of the deal (which I don't see how they couldn't).

Looks like Billy will be headed back to Gainsville.

It won't hurt his recruiting at all.

How would this line work on a kid.

Just to let you know I won the National Title 2 years in a row and 3 of my kids are going to be selected in the NBA lottery. Do you want to play for me or not?

    Re: Donovan pulling a Altman..

Florida should let him sit on the step as they change the locks to their doors. If Billy wanted out after saying he would stay, what says he doesn't do it again after next season? Florida can find a top notch coach. Heck with Donovan and his 'commitment' to the Gators.

Guess this is what I was trying to say regarding other coaches recruiting against Donovan...

Yeah the guy won them two national titles in a row. So are you telling me if Mac won 2 NC in a row then bolted for Florida and decided to come back that you would say screw him and not take him back. I don't think so. They begged Billy to come back. I can't blame them.

    Re: Donovan pulling a Altman..

I think this has a little to do with having a GM on the hot seat and an owner not willing to spend money in the offseason dispite having a ton of cap room... Not to mention that Foley probably came up with an extra couple of million dollars somewhere to keep him around...

    Re: Donovan pulling a Altman..

The best thing that could happen here (but it won't) would be for Orlando to let him out of the contract and Florida to say "thanks, but no thanks" and go with someone else.

At some point, the AD's and owners need to send a message to coaches - you can't hold us hostage by committing someplace else, changing your mind the next day and trying to come back. Well, you can, but don't expect us to receive you with open arms.

I would really love to see one of these egotistical coaches that think they own the world left by in the cold by the affair and the wife.
