ISU not on Stokes short list

Kiah Stokes still has Iowa on her short list | GazetteOnline.com

Connecitcut, Tennessee, Georgia, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Iowa

Stokes’ college goals include finding a program that can compete for a national title. She eventually wants to play pro basketball so she wants a coach that can develop her into a top player.
“A coach that can push me to my full potential so I can be as good as I can and hopefully have a shot at winning a national title,” Stokes said. “That’s some of the things I wanted to do.”

There is a very small chance of Iowa winning a national title, so I just don't see her going there, has a Harrison Barnes type feel to it. Keep Iowa on the list, when they really have no chance at all.

i don't see Geogia, Iowa or Oklahoma challanging for a naitonal title in the next 4 years. Too bad she isn't thinking about ISU, but I can see why.

We've known for a while that ISU's shot at Stokes was slim, but this officially seals it.

    This.

She's keeping Iowa in the mix because that's where her friends are. Iowa fits none of her stated criteria. When it comes down to it, she's going to pick one of the other schools. My money is on UConn.

My TN friends are feeling good about their chances too.

Frankly, with Stokes, Greenfield, and the current roster, I think ISU would have a legit shot at Final Four and a chance to win National Championship.

The risk for Stokes is playing time. TN and UCONN have full benches, and are notorious for having players that would start at any other top-25 team, warm the bench. I'm not saying she wouldn't earn it, but earning it at UConn and TN as a fresh/sophomore is an uphill battle.

I think it comes down to TN or CT. Brenda is dropping like a rock at MD, Andy Landers will never win a national championship at GA, and honestly as much as I like Sherri Coale, she has not had good luck with players going to the next level. Neither Paris sister is on a WNBA roster, Nyeshia Stevenson, Abi Olajuwon and Amanda Thompson were all waived this year. In a quick glance through the players in the WNBA, I didn't see any active players from OU.

I heard the same thing from some parents of Stokes' teammates at the Super 16 tourney in Ames - that Tennessee is very strong in her thinking.

Not surprising. I also think that he keeps Iowa in the loop in order not to hurt the EIU.
If she wants to win NC, UConn is where she should go. Although if she wants to make a history, she can go to ISU. There's no way EIU will go to the final four.

Her brother is also walking on to the men's team this year and her dad is a hawk legend.

    mred, twist,
didn't take long for it did it?

I don't think I would sell OU out yet either.

I'd say Iowa's probably where she really wants to go, but she won't do it because it's not what's best for her basketball future. It's like falling in love with a school that doesn't offer your major.

With all the post talent we have (Poppens, Zimmerman, Prins, Christopherson) I don't really see this being that big of a deal you know? Taylor Greenfield is the one we need!!! A 6' 2" gaurd that can play any position!

Three of our four post players will be juniors when the 2011 recruits are freshmen. It'd be nice to pick up a good post player for 2011, but if we don't then it's extremely important we pick up a couple for 2012. Throwing freshmen posts into the fire immediately is often a recipe for disaster (last season being a notable exception).
