Nice event. Beats the heck out of the "golf and pork chop" events of the past. Several hundred in attendance including several families and lots of kids. Created lots of buzz on the levee downtown Davenport.
I talked to Sanderson, Mac, and Chizek. Dripped on Pollard, John Walters, and the guys from Learfield Communications about the poor radio coverage we're forced to endure on this side the state. If you live in eastern Iowa or western Illinois, let your voice be heard. Suggest you start with Ryan Grant @ www.learfieldsprots.com. Not a bad thing to let Walters and Pollard know how you feel, too (Walters seems like a nice guy and a real pro).
I won a golf umbrella, picked up an '07 FB poster (signed by local footballers Frere and Brandtner) for a friend's daughter who'll be attending ISU this fall.
And even got some love in an article in today's Quad City Times:
New Iowa State football coach Gene Chizek, addressing the crowd at Thursday's Cyclone Tailgate tour stop in the Quad Cities, couldn't ressist asking women's basketball coach Bill Fennelly how he could "get a lifetime contract" like the one the Davenport native was given. "Just win baby," a voice from the crowd shot back. Chizek broke into a rare grin. "Yeah, I know...rhetorical question," he said.
That "voice from the crowd" was mine. (Thanks Al Davis for the inspiration.)
Let's hope that the CHIZ quickly becomes eligible for a lifetime contract!!!
