Five Questions: With an Iowa expert

Here's part two of my "five questions" series with various writers around the country, concerning the 2010 Cyclone football schedule. HawkeyNation.com's Jon Miller is my guest today.

    Agreed.

Although I do wonder really how well 9-3 will go over with the majority of Iowa fans, and whether or not they will consider that a "success"?

That's a pretty fair write up out of Jon. Very nice.

Wonder how badly he'll be criticized for "settling" for 9 wins.

I agree, pretty good article. I think with all of the hype around IA this year that some extreme fans will go after Jon for the 9 wins but he did say "at least" nine wins. If there is anything less than 9 you can bet that there will be some major dissapointment and rightfully so.

I think in typical IA fashion they lose one that they shouldnt and go 10-2 or 11-1.

“It’s beyond pride. It’s a restored trust. There’s a confidence again, a passion that teeters on swagger. More than anything, (Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads) has restored the Iowa State “it” factor, the steadfast belief that it is great to be a Cyclone...the man’s enthusiasm is genuine to the core...”

Id say worst case for iowa would be a 4 loss season... best case is undefeated. I however think they lose on road to Michigan, and beat Ohio State at home to win Big 10. Both Iowa, and Ohio State have 1 conference loss. I can still see Iowa losing to ISU or Arizona, but that wouldnt affect Big 10 race.

I say 9-3 or 10-2. I think they maybe lose a game like ISU or Arizona and lose to NW, Indiana, or Michigan and OSU.

Don't forget they play Northwestern and Indiana. They struggle against both of those teams and NW owns them. OWNS THEM!

"Iowa fans have a pull for the state"? did he not read his own site during the conference realignment madness... Good Joke Jon Miller! I did get a bit of a chuckle when he said a vast majority of hawk fans dont obsess over ISU. HA.

    But overall a good article.

I don't know about "vast majority" but based on the Evil Brethren I know personally, I would say the majority don't. Of course we get the cream of the crop () over here.

Re: Five Questions: With an Iowa expert

The "pull" that Miller is talking about is how a lot of people leave Iowa when they're young and long to return, due to some special, intrinsic quality that this place and these people have. He's not talking about Hawks rooting for the Clones.

    And he's 100% correct.

Re: Five Questions: With an Iowa expert

That could be the best I have seen from Jon. I did chuckle when he metioned the OL rarely comes together before Otcober. That was a predictable excuse as to why Iowa gets beat by ISU (doesn't explain 2001).

I do see Iowa losing to tOSU, PSU( I think PSU is due even though Iowa owns them), and either Wisconsin or NW. If we beat them, I see them at 8-4 or 7-5. Over the last ten years, if ISU wins, Iowa finishes 8-4 or worse (except 2002).

Re: Five Questions: With an Iowa expert

I could see Iowa losing to PSU and beating NW.

Those kinds of trends have a way of working themselves out.

The only reason I think Iowa might lose to Penn State is by overlooking them after this dominant run they've had against the Lions.
