    Iowa's 2 Billion dollar man

This is really an amazing story.

The making of Iowa's $2 billion man | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

I work in this field, so understand better than some perhaps how he made it. It wasn't rocket science and he simply was willing to take some risks at good times to grow his company. The growth in sales he experienced is amazing to me. Appears to me he had a monopoly in some of his overseas markets and that's part of what really helped him.

Sounds like he's just a really good guy too, which is a nice story line.

I believe it's one chevy for every year they were made but could be wrong.

He has pretty much every classic impala, I went through his garage a couple years ago after a charity event. I think every car has a personal license plate too, it must be a long afternoon at the DMV to register 147 cars.

God that's so cheap. You guys in Iowa have it good for real estate prices. Cool article.

Albaugh says he will look around for other investment opportunities, as well as develop a charitable foundation.

He does have a corvette from every classic year...1953-1975. I am sure he could very easily get the years from 75 til the present (I am sure he has a few of them but doesn't display them) but they don't really go with all the classics he has in there. I was able to walk through it about 2 weeks ago and it is incredible. He doesn't just have a specific year car, he has that car with the rarest of rare options and it is in mint condition. Lots of cash in that building.

Good for him, sounds like a good, and obviously smart, guy. The talk of his car collection makes me wonder what kind of "toys" others would buy if they could.

Personally, I'd be more inclined to go the yacht route.

Re: Iowa's 2 Billion dollar man

Loved the article. My experiences with Dennis have shown me that he is a humble, down to earth Iowan, like most Iowans I come into contact with. If you saw him in a grocery store or C-store, unless you knew his face you would never know of his financial prowess.

I can never read enough of these 'small town Iowa success stories' and his is one of the best.

Denny is a good guy. We were buddies in high school and all of his friends have some good high school stories about "Big Den", usually involving his chevy's. We're all lucky to be alive.

Re: Iowa's 2 Billion dollar man

When Paul Rhodes was first hired, a friend told me he was married to one of Dennis Albaugh's daughters. I bought it hook, line & sinker, until I checked the Auburn Tigers website which noted he is married to the former Vickie Miles....
