Rhett Bomar - kicked off of OU's football team

Holy crap, the Big 12 just got very interesting:

    http://www.soonersports.com/ViewArti...&ATCLID=526238

Based upon an investigation initiated by the University of Oklahoma and facts uncovered by the University, Head Coach Bob Stoops today announced that he has permanently dismissed two members of the Sooner football team.

The investigation by OU revealed that two football players received extra compensation above that to which they were entitled related to their employment at a private business. This is a direct violation of NCAA rules. The two accepted payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked.

news release from OU does not name the players, but News 9 sports director Dean Blevins says one player is starting quarterback Rhett Bomar.

The release says an investigation by the university found the two players were paid to work at a private business and were paid for hours they didn't work.
OU said the two are being permanently dismissed and will not be allowed to return to the team at any time. OU athletic director Joe Castiglione says he's disappointed in the athletes and university President David Boren says he believes Stoops is doing the right thing and he strongly supports the coach.

I dont think he was that good of a QB in the first place, shouldn't affect us or any other team besides OU.

Rhett got off to a rocky start in 2005, but when the season ended, OU was showing signs of being a national title contender in 2006.

This will have ripple effects throughout the entire league, espcially in the South.

It certainly does affect us and every other team they play. They might have been shaky with him at first last year but once Peterson got healthy he looked pretty good. And if you really don't think he's that good then how bad must be the guys behind him. You just don't plug in quarterbacks like you can other positions. Defenses are now lining up to stop Peterson and blitzing the new guy. We'll see how they fair.

there's rumors on other message boards that Bomar was working at the same dealership that was invovled in the Adrian Peterson scandal a few months ago.

I just checked their site and they only have one guy listed behind him at QB - a sophomore. Certainly they have a few others that are redshirts or something don't they? Would they be listed on the roster on rivals?

Starting QB and offensive lineman gone for OU. Not good for them.

The South just opened up even more. Toss-up now between Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma IMO.

Looks like he was working at a Sooner merchandise shop or not working as the case may be. Not the car dealer though.

TT and TX are my vote.

And TT isn't really that close to TX, because, I believe we will win that game.

9-3 imho is doable, but I beleive we will be 8-4, no worse.

And I can already hear the UofI fans. Well, ISU's season just got easier ..... Maybe they can squeek out a non-January bowl game.

    -keep.

Ya, and I can just hear the Sooner fans acting like Pukeye fans after we beat them in their house this Fall trying to come up with excuses why "they lost" to us instead of just admitting that we ARE the better team. I suppose this will mean we have two superbowls now instead of just the EIU game.

I will have my violin tuned and ready to play to their whining.

Let's not get too excited just yet. We've got to be able to score more than the measley 3 we put up on our last trip to Norman...

However, I've gotta think their offense will have a tough time scoring, especially now everyone knows it's gonna be all Adrian Petersen.

    I hesitate to bring up....

    Synders few trip-ups at KSU.
    Robertson at ISU
    OU's current troubles....
    Free cell phones at UofI?

all have coaches that link back to the UofI and Hayden Fry.

does anyone have any thoughts to this?

My thought is this: when one of these programs (specifically from the BigXII) has great success, they (announcers) always bring up the link back to the UofI. What if the tie back isn't positive?

How quickly until Bomar shows up at UNI? Seems to be the trend...
