Angry ICS - Worse than Qwest and Mediacom??

Many people on here have been complaining about Qwest and Mediacom internet recently. My recent dealings with ICS have been horrible. So far they have had the worst customer service I have ever had experience with. I am disappointed that a local Ames company would be like this.

My first call to ICS was on June 30, and as far as I know nothing has been done as of today, July 15. At this point, I think they are just trying to ignore me and hope I'll just disappear. I would welcome Qwest or Mediacom into my house as a major upgrade...

Anybody else had problems with them?

Re: ICS - Worse than Qwest and Mediacom??

I agree COMPLETELY!!! My fiance didn't get an internet connection in her apartment for an entire year due to wiring issues when her service was ICS, with their "solution" being to take her wireless router and place it in another apartment in the same complex where the internet worked. Then they never gave her back in router at the end of the year. Now I'm stuck with ICS at my current apartment and its not quite that bad, but the connection speed is extremely inconsistent.

i'm with ICS in my apartment right now and i absolutely hate it. having to login to use the internet is incredibly stupid. they also charge you 5 bucks a month to hook up an xbox 360, wii, ps3 so you can play on the internet. its also very slow at times when you need it the most. stay away from it if you can

ICS was horrible. I had it in my apt for a couple of years in Ames and absolutely hated it.

I'm not a gamer so please excuse me if this is a stupid question, but why are they charging you the 5 bucks a month? Is a static IP required for your gaming?

If a static IP is required, then the charge is reasonable. I pay $5/month for a static IP to run my website, and this is the same price it cost my parents when my server was at their house a few years ago (in small-town IL).

FWIW, the service that my fraternity had from ICS was very hit-and-miss, but my personal apartment service in West Ames has actually been rather good. I wasn't crazy about having to purchase the DSL router, though (as opposed to a provided with deposit approach or something like that).

Had them in my apartment when I lived in Ames. It was terrible. I kept ******** and they finally sent someone out to redo some wiring which helped with the dropped connection issues but never speed.

since you have to have an account to login to the internet on your computer, and this cant be done with a gaming system, they charge you to hook it up. the rules may have changed but last time i checked thats what they charged for it

If you live at West Towne, you have to use their service. I hated the year and a half I had to use them.

If you have a wireless router, you can plug your console into one of the jacks on that...that's what I'm doing right now (to avoid the $5 charge).

Re: ICS - Worse than Qwest and Mediacom??

Just reiterating what others have said here. ICS is total crap.

I lived in an apartment that shared ONE wireless router, and if too many people connected to it, it would crap out, and you were totally out of luck for the night until other people disconnected.

I have had Qwest DSL since 2005. I have had very few problems, and really, nothing outside of what you would consider acceptable downtime. It's been great.
