    Falcons make a big mistake?

With the evidence growing against Michael Vick - I believe now more than I did at the time of the trade - the Falcons made a bad move trading Schaub to Houston.

Now with no viable back-up - the Falcons could be in a heap of trouble with Vick's dog fighting issues. I think it wasn't a great move before that, seeing how Vick hasn't been the healthiest of quarterbacks.

The new commish has instituted a no tolerance type of policy and Pacman Jones was made the biggest example - having a lengthy list of off-field behavior problems.

This isn't Vick's first issue, he's had a couple recently. He's already had at least one discussion with the new commish about his problems as well.

It will be interesting to see how the Goodell handles a very prominent player like Vick. Pacman isn't no slouch yet he's not near the commodity Vick is.

If this goes bad for Vick, the Falcons will be in a world of hurt and Petrino may have wished he stayed in Louisville.

Re: Falcons make a big mistake?

I agree with you. I'm not a big fan of Vick's and generally think he's one of the more overrated QB's in the league. I think that getting rid of Shaub was a mistake, regardless of Vick's off the field problems. There just aren't enough quality backups to make getting rid of one justifiable in most cases. That being said, what did they get from Houston? They got a first round draft pick that they used to select Jamaal Anderson, who is being touted as potential Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate. Couple this with the fact that they lost their starting DE in Pat Kearney this off season, and suddenly Shaub's leaving makes a little more sense. They basically traded a back up QB, who potentially might never see the field, for a top ten pick with the potential for greatness. I'm not saying they made the right call. I'm just saying, I can see the logic in making it.

You make an excellent point with their yield on the trade - hard to contend with that.

They've traded offensive security (and possibly production) for a defensive star.

Will see how that pans out for 'em.

They also have Joey Harrington, who is a pretty solid backup. As for Vick, I hope he gets busted and suspended by the league. I think Drew Tate is available too if the Falcons want to sign a "quality" rookie.

Re: Falcons make a big mistake?

Regarding Vick's dog fighting troubles, I don't think they're going to affect him this year. They'll be an annoyance, but I heard that IF a Grand Jury is called, it likely won't be until sometime in July or August. And IF he is indicted, the trial wouldn't start right away. The NFL won't suspend him until he's been arrested, or due to the high profile of this issue, maybe not until he's been found guilty.

Pacman Jones was not arrested over his little incident at the strip club in Vegas and he still got slapped for the year. Sure he's done a lot more stuff than Vick. I think if he gets indicted, he will get suspended.

Yeah, but the NFL wants to hate Pacman Jones. That guy has no defenders outside of Tennessee. He's not going to get the benefit of the doubt like Vick is. The league is in love with Vick and wants him to be a star. At least they did. He's been doing a good job of taking himself off of that pedestal recently. But the Micheal Vick of two years ago would not get suspended until something was concrete against him. I guess it depends on how much status he's lost in the eyes of the league.

Re: Falcons make a big mistake?

The thing going against Vick though, is his constant denial of anything to do with this. The evidence is mounting against him.

So not only did he commit the illegal act, he's lying about involvement after being caught.

From what we know of Goodell in his short time, that will upset him about as much as the actual illegal act.

IMO Vick's dog fighting is worse than Pacman getting into a fight. Pacman has had several strikes against him but the strikes are also mounting against Vick. He was caught at the airport last year (?) with a water bottle with a secret compartment that had traces of weed in it.

Good Point. Getting caught in a lie, or the perception of a lie can be incredibly damaging. I never would have thought that Big Mac could have ever fallen out of favor after he broke the home run record, but his credibility is shot now. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone.

Trent Green is available for some sort of compensation to the Chiefs. The Dolphins are convinced that KC will eventually cut him and they'll be able to pick Green up for nothing...I'd love to see Atlanta come into the mix and grab Trent thus shafting Miami.

Re: Falcons make a big mistake?

IF Vick gets suspended and IF Green goes to the Dolphins, the Dolphins more than likely will have to drop Culpepper, so he COULD be available.

I don't think the league anymore is giving Vick the benefit of the doubt. There was the whole water bottle fiasco early this off-season and the time he gave his home hands the finger (nice guy). Also, at this years draft, he met with Goodell, and told him that he had no involvement with this. If it comes out that he even had the slightest involvement with it, the commish won't like it. Also, if you read some of the NFL rumor sites, they have had their security people looking into this incident from the git go. Kicks and slurps!

Miami is a whole different can of worms. Their qb situation is a huge mess. How they passed on Quinn, I will never know. I don't even like Brady Quinn, but I still thought they should have grabbed him.

I think this might just be what the Chiefs need to get that 4th round draft pick they wanted for Green.

Read Rick Rieleys (sp?) piece in the back of the "tim duncan" sports illustrated out this week - Pacman has ruined people's lives, though not convicted, he's scum. 11 run-ins with the law in a couple years don't just happen, just imagine what he's gotten away with if that's what they've caught him for.

I like the Titans, but they gotta cut this loser loose.
