    Next Golf Coach: Andrew Tank?

I'm hearing Andrew Tank is the next men's golf coach. Has been the head golf coach at Minny for the last 2 years and assistant before that. He's originally from Des Moines.

Hasn't Tank been the assistant for the men's team at Minnesota? I know the legendary Brad James has been the head golf coach for both men and women.
After this season ended, James left his position and went back to his native Australia.
Andrew Tank wanted the Minnesota mens golf head coaching job, but apparently isn't getting it. The team finished eighth in the Big Ten championships, even though it was on their home course.

I knew Andrew when he was growing up in Des Moines, good kid and I am sure he has developed into a good coach. He was a good golfer and played at Minnesota in college.

I think Tank was the head coach the last 2 years and James was the Director of Golf. It is rumored that John Harris will be taking over for James. Andrew is a good guy but had a much worse record last season than Horton. I would have expected a higher profile coach.

I'm not sure it really matters as ISU if the farthest northern school in the Big 12, so I don't think you can expect much success in a game played outside.

If it is Andrew Tank (not confirmed yet by the athletic department), it is a great hire. Tank has been the driving force behind several Big Ten championships for the Gophers. He has been their lead recruiter and number 1 assistant. He is a tireless worker and recruiter -- he will win at Iowa State.

I heard that he was being actively sought by several other programs (including a Big East program). He was also a finalist for the "Director of Golf" position at Minnesota. He was not the head coach at Minnesota, but the number 1 assistant in charge of the men's program (they shuffled some titles there). It is true that Minnesota did not have a great year, but they were in a rebuilding mode after winning Big Ten championships.

Not trying to turn this into a Cy-Hawk debate but Iowa's recent success as a men's golf program proves that a northern school can have success. Coach Hankin's has the men's program going in the right direction and given the right person in Ames Iowa State will enjoy some success.
