Sad. But come on people, just wait it out. It only takes a few minutes for the train to pass.

My guess is the lady wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

I don't get it either. Its not worth it. Trains are neat to watch go by anyway.....just relax and watch until it passes.

9:30 is a little early for me to think alcohol might have been involved but isn't that a lot of people's first thought?

Yes, it's hard to not see a train if your sober.

Maybe too early to be drunk, but not to early to be hopped up on goof balls.

I wonder what goes through people's minds right before they do something this damn stupid. Seriously. It's a train. If it hits you, you die.

Drove by this on the way home from Midnight Madness last night. They had it all taped off and there was a good sized group of people there that looked to be pretty hysterical. We knew just by the reactions of those around when we went by that somebody was either dead or seriously injured. My opion from what I saw was that she wasn't alone so either the rest of the group made it or had enough common sense not to try it

Re: Last night, a lady died after struck by train in Ames (LINK)

My dad worked on the railroad for almost 40 years and was involved in several train/car accidents, and at least one train/person accident that resulted in fatalities. Almost every one was somebody trying to beat the train. Those guys operating the trains are people too and I know those instances gnaw at my dad to this day. Please think when you are around the tracks people.

I don't understand how people get run over by trains. Everytime I come up on a railroad the lights are always on way before the train arrives and the gate is down in plenty of time.
