    Beware the Grimes Sweet Corn

I have some in the dutch oven right now... I don't know if it is a bad batch, and although I figured it wouldn't be totally developed yet it really looks rough for them. I'm honestly surprised they gave it to me. Might want to wait on it for a few weeks to let some grow up a little more.

I'd shuck it when you buy. Hearing alot of people complaining that there have been worms in the sweet corn they've bought. I suppose due to the excessively wet season so far.

Got some from Deardorf's yesterday and it was fine.

agreed, the in-laws insisted on getting it for the 4th and were sevearly disappointed, it was small, had no taste, and soggy ...

overheard the guy selling sweet corn out of a truck at the downtown Farmer's mkt this morning...he wasn't Grimes, (Carlisle...I believe) commenting that the moister is the reason for the wormes (believe he said corn boars)...said nothin' they can do about it.

Yeah, it hasn't been a real good year for the sweet corn in central Iowa. To much rain and not enough heat at critical times for the corn. I would be interested to know where this Deardorf corn was grown. Sounds like they've had good luck with it.

Fremont sweet corn is started a week ago. The ears are small and have more worms than I have seen in years. But the flavor is good, so far I have grilled some and boiled some.

mmmm...I love it off the grill. Nothing wrong with boiling either, but slap some butter in it and wrap it up and let the grill work it's magic.

Re: Beware the Grimes Sweet Corn

Those are likely ear worms. Sweet corn in general will not be great this year and it seems awfully early for it.

It's all snark from here on out
