I got to "caddy" for Johnny Orr yesterday

Awesome. Absolutely Awesome. I thought I was going to be caddying for Dolphin and found out when I got to Waverly that I was going to be with Coach Orr. If anyone ever gets the chance to golf in a group with him, its highly recommened.
This was for the Ed Thomas Family Foundation.
At one point I was sitting at a table with Orr, Dr Tom Davis, and Dolph and just absorbing them flipping **** to each other like they had obviously done many times before. Dolph does a killer Orr impersonation and Johnny got a kick out of it too. Those guys go way back and just had tons of stories to share about each other.
Dolphin had plenty to drink and was a riot later in the day. He was going around telling everyone he was Jon Walters, voice of the Cyclones. A little while later when I was getting a picture of him with some hawk friends of mine, he was masquerading as Eddie Podolak with Iowa Hawkeye Football.
Dallas Clark was in the group ahead of us and Coach Orr took every chance he could to talk smack.
The 4 AP guys in the NFL were there, Coach Doyle and Woods from Iowa, Sean Considine, Coach Farley from UNI, Dolph, Davis, Orr, some guy that used to pitch for the Yankees, a guy from the Packers organization that had a couple Super Bowl rings on that I got some pics with, Dallas Clark, and some other guys I'm probably forgetting. Oh, and everyone's favorite hawk Bob Brooks was there as a media member. ALso in attendance was Casey Weigmann's wife and Survivor winner Dani Boatwright.
Awesome day for a great cause.

Didn't really expand the vocabulary as much as I learned a ton of different uses for the same word.
Jim Hallihan was also there and at one of the par 3's he was closest to the pin on the T-shot and left a nice message for Johnny on the stake marking the spot

I've followed Johnny a couple times when the course was backed up.
Coach seemed to use the same words over and over after his drives.

He had a story (or several) for about every situation, but I really enjoyed the stories of how he got certain players to come to ISU

Are you saying that Dolphin pretended to be drunk Ed Podolak later in the day?

    If so, interesting...

This just goes to show that the 'Rivalry' is just a way to sell tickets. Most of the guys in the coaching profession get along much better than the fans, they are just fanning the flames in those summer events. I bet it was fun to be in the middle of this.

I didn't even think of that. Would have been a good one to have there.

Cool. Time with Coach Orr is always fantastic...but with that group it had to be epic.

Re: I got to "caddy" for Johnny Orr yesterday

One other thing worth mentioning- Coach Orr is convinced that Mack Brown played a huge part in keeping the B12 (10) together, or at least keeping ISU as part of the conference. Told me that Brown still has a love for ISU.

Re: I got to "caddy" for Johnny Orr yesterday

I agree with Mack Brown having a positive influence on ISU's Big 12 mouth to mouth revival. His stop here earlier in his career as an assistant and his later consideration for the head job when it opened up while he was the head coach in North Carolina were big parts of his step up to the Texas job, and he has been cognizant of that. The main reason Chizek took the job was on the recommendation of Brown and thqat has worked out well for Chizek too. That's why I always laugh at the uninformed Hawk fans who say that ISU is a coaching "grave yard". Couldn't be further from the truth. Ask Earle Bruce, Jimmie Johnson, Johnny Majors and many more.
