4th place seems reasonable in the North, but I still think we're better than K-State and we will sneak into 3rd place.

Re: Ubben's look at the B12 North

we are better than KSU, KU and Colorado

The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come.

Re: Ubben's look at the B12 North

Guys, this may be a year where record does not indicate the actual validity of the team. I know you are what your record says but I don't buy that when every team does not play the same schedule.

Don't get me wrong, I think finishing 3rd in the conference is realistic. In no way am I making an excuse. However, if we do beat those three bottom teams and finish below third because they munched up a weaker schedule, I can live with that and I will say, as well as a lot of people, that we were a better team than all of them. I still expect us to compete for the North title. I think we can beat Missouri and we beat Nebraska last year. We should improve more than either of those teams this coming year. I think the key is picking up a win against one of the South teams. I am not saying I expect the team to win the North, I just want them to put themselves in porition in each individual game to make it possible.

Think about this. We were predicted to finish fourth. Give us this schedule in any of the last three years and we are picked to finish last and likely be winless in the conference. We are getting more respect. Sure, it's not the amount we would like but we need to step back and look at the trend.

It's all snark from here on out

i think we were better than k-state last year. And KU. But we lost to them. Finished ahead of Kansas but behind K-State. But obviously, we went to a bowl game and they didn't. So i'd take the same scenario as last year for next season.

"If you put [Iowa State] in the Big East or a weaker conference, they're a team that could win 8, 9 games possibly, if they had maybe an easier non-conference schedule..."

    I'll take it.

I don't think it's terribly far removed to say we have the ability to sweep the North. Of course, that will require the team to be at their tip top week in and week out, especially come November when we play Nebraska, Colorado away, and Mizzou. Hopefully by then our more talented newcomers in the defense have the experience to make these games legitimate fights (more so in the home games, but I understand Boulder is a tough place to play, and it's possible Dan Hawkins could be fighting tooth and nail for a sixth win).

It's also possible Dan Hawkins will be fighting tooth and nail to save his job.

I think this scenario is more likely than the 6 win scenario.

But on a serious note, where we are is understandable, I see us passing up KSU, but I understand where Ubben is coming from.

I honestly feel like we can compete and have a legit shot at winning every conference game, exlcuding at TEX and OU, and let me tell you, that's a good feeling.

I was speaking under the assumption that a bowl game would save his job.

The way I see ISU, is that this team has a chance to knock off one of the big teams this year. I'll agree that 4th is reasonable for ISU in the North. K. State is on-par with ISU talent-wise and Mizzou and Nebraska are the top-2. Texas will be a tough team to face, but I would say a loss by 10 or fewer points would feel like a W if you're ISU - and I think that's possible. I don't see Tech being very good and Oklahoma could be the team to beat. OK has some great QBs waiting in the wings to take-over if Landry Jones trips up at all before the ISU game. OK's schedule before ISU looks like this: Utah State, Florida State, Air Force, @ Cincy, Texas and then ISU. If there's going to be a QB change, it will be against ISU and if there's not, than Landry Jones will be pretty worn down and that could be ISUs chance to knock the Sooners out.

It will be interesting to see what Kansas does this year under Gill. The Clones ought to be able to take them.
