Notables from the new Strength and Conditioning article

Some great news out of that article on Cyclones.com. FYI, it is a great article, everyone should read it.

Jake McDonough is 289 right now, and Rump is at 290. That would be a couple legit interior defensive linemen. Yancy mentions that both kids are still only 19. Allot of potential in those two. Maybe this is why the staff hasn't been after as many D linemen as most of us thought they should have been.

Darks is up to 196. That's great news for our WR group. I see him as another RJ Sumrall.

Burris is 6'7", and 293. Yancy calls him our most athletic offensive lineman.

Lattimer and Neal have had some great gains, good news for the DE group. Parker is quickly returning to form.

Jake Knott sounds like he is going to be a beast. The strength of an interior lineman and the agility of a corner according to Yancy.

LJ and Benton look to both be in great shape, and O'Connell looks good as well. He mentioned that Washington at the safety spot is up to 207. That's some nice size at safety. Look like we are going to be very good and deep in the secondary.

As long as Knott knows how to put it together on the field (and all indications says he will, just look at special teams last year) he will be a force by the end of the season.

Re: Notables from the new Strength and Conditioning article

That really helps with some of my concerns...

Burris last year was listed at 276. I thought that was light, but 260 is WAY light. Regardless, he did play some last year, especially in the Nebraska game. Having him at a fairly lean 293 (I assume they wouldn't put bad weight on him) makes him a legit starter and not a liability.

Interior DL...McDonough was listed at 270 for the spring and Rump at 280. Having them both near 290 makes me feel a lot better about our interior run D. I wonder where Bailey Johnson and Alburtis are weight-wise. Really, they have a chance to be a pretty good four man rotation.

DE, I always wondered how Pat Neal could do anything at 227. Having him at 240 can only help. Sounds like Parker is rounding back into shape. Man, I would like to see Rony Nelson working out with the team.

It's surprising to me to hear that about Knott. Not that I don't believe McKnight, but here's a kid who had pretty much no offers out of HS. He was going to UNI before CPR got hired. How does a kid with those kinds of phyisical skills, playing 4A CIML ball, almost slip through the cracks??

Knott was closing in on an Iowa offer...at least a greyshirt when we offered.

Same could be said for Klein. I know people are worried about Klein and Knott filling in the LB spot. That is understandable as Jesse Smith was a great player. BUT anyone that watched Knott and Klein play on special teams last year should be confident in their abilities. Those two were always in position. ALWAYS. At one point (late in the season) they were top ten in tackles having only played special teams.

Someone at ISU knew something though, basically the first thing CPR did when he got hired was to offer Knott a scholly.

Re: Notables from the new Strength and Conditioning article

When I saw Knott play in high school he was dominant on both offense and defense, and was amazed that a kid with that size and athletic ability wasn't being heavily recruited. I heard that one of the first things CPR did when he got the job was touch base with his old Ankeny coaches and they told him about Knott, and CPR wisely went right after him.

Yes. I doubt he would have been offered a scholly but the greyshirt was a very good possibility.

Re: Notables from the new Strength and Conditioning article

After CPR's first signing day he commented on how he thought Knott Was going to be a impact player. The way he played last year and after hearing form Yancy thats what he is.

Once again he is a JuggerKnott.

Sounds like you may have seen this personally but I would like to see/read some more verification on him deadlifting 705 lbs. in hs before completely buying it. That's a hell of a lift for a college fb player let alone a hs one.

    There was one?
