    Bleachers on the Hillsides

I know that some see the hillsides as a tradition, and its kinda nice to sit on the grass to watch a game in our beautiful stadium. But can't we put bleachers in the corners (all four) to give the appearance of a lower level bowl.
    - More impressive on TV
    - More intimidating to competitors (coming out of the Jacobson Building)
    - More impressive for recruits
    - More excitement for our players

It would probably result in less capacity, but the image is needed. Even in the old photos of Clyde Williams, they closed in the corners and it looked bowled.

Bleachers in the corners would look like...well bleachers. No thanks. Grass or a real bowl.

You can't put bleachers on grass, it would end up a muddy mess. You have to pave first like the south endzone. At that point, you might as well save the money for permanent stands.

The South end zone bleachers don't look that bad. They actually look pretty sharp. All of Memorial Stadium's (at Nebraski) end zone seats (which are huge) are large bleachers.

I'm not talking the portable beachers that you bring in with a forklift - custom cut for the corners, concrete footings (probably gravel under them). Big.

Grass is just grass. Boring and looks minor league.

Could you imagine the students crammed around the corners by they walkways where the teams walk in. Awesome!

Why is it people always want to go after the cheapest solution that perpetuates the stereotype of ISU being this hick school in the middle of a cornfield. Either bowl the thing in professionally or leave the thing alone - the south endzone already looks like a cheap high school setup. Let's not make it worse.

I think some people just want to see it get done. Since the price tag we keep hearing is somewhere north of $60mil, it's going to be a while before this gets accomplished, if ever. Talk of bowling the south endzone has been around since the stadium was built 30+ years ago.

We went with a less expensive option for the b-ball practice facility than what was originally planned. Would it be possible to go with Plan B for the south endzone as well?

Jack Trice is already filled with bleachers. It's not like were all sitting in padded seats with 2 cup holders each. Really dont see how it would be too expensive to put in some more crappy bleachers and some cement other than the contractor making a pretty penny from it all.

I was at Utah's stadium last week....side and endzone bleachers made a small stadium look impressive. Would prefer the "plan" but without, we could still improve the look.

"Preliminary construction work began in June of 1997 and continued throughout the 1997 Utah home football season. Two days after the season ended, wrecking crews moved in and demolished Rice Stadium. Only the south end zone bleachers and the Rice name (Robert L. Rice contributed $1 million in the 1972 renovation) would carry over to the new stadium. Rising from the rubble less than 10 months later was Rice-Eccles Stadium..."

"The total construction costs ran $50 million, of which $10 million came from private gifts, $10 million from athletics department bonding, $12 million from the University of Utah and $8 million from the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Committee."

Kinnick had nothing but bleachers in the south endzone for 50 years before they were able to build permanent stands.

We might not have the money to build permanent stands at this time.

So Utah built an entire stadium for $50 mil, and (according to this thread...) it will cost us $60 mil to bowl in 1 endzone?

    Inflation and greed.
