    Losing a pet

Yesterday was probably one of the hardest days of my life, if not the hardest. My best friend, roommate and kid died yesterday. I have never persnally owned a pet and never thought it would be so hard. He truely was my best friend and my companion. I honestly dont think I have ever cried so much. When something so tragic happens so unexpectidely, I think is what made it so worse, he was only going to be 2 in October. This is one bad part of having a pet, but just wish he didnt have to be taken from me so soon. I love you Rocky and you will be in my heart forever!

I lived on a busy highway growing up, as well as a farm. I learned early on in life whta it was like to lose a best friend/pet. It isn't easy at all and I understand your sorrow. Fortunately for me it allows me to accept the death of loved ones much easier.

    Re: Losing a pet

We put down a dog that had been with us for at least a dozen years. I never thought it would be so hard, either. It did get better. (Maybe it helps that our little doggy was hilarious, so there are a lot of laughs there.)

Our pets are really part of our family. Nothing washes away the feelings of a crappy day like your dogs waiting to greet you when you get home. I'm sorry for your loss, as I know it is very hard.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

    Re: Losing a pet

I know exactly how you feel. We had to put down out German shepherd when she was about 12 years old - 10 of them with us. It was the day before Thanksgiving, so every year you can't help but remember it when that holiday rolls around. She suddenly starting having seizures - each one getting worse and more frequent. So, there was this urge to rush it so she didn't have to suffer through another one while at the same time no way did I want to do it. We were supposed to show the house that day so the real estate agent was really POed at us for canceling at the last minute, while we're totally focused on something that made us both near hysterical. That was 5 years ago and it still makes me cry. I think I cried everyday for a month and I'm not really a crier like that.

It gets better - and don't hesitate to get anther pet because you'll bond with a new one too.

    Re: Losing a pet

I have lost a number of pooches over the yrs and it never gets easier. But there is another pet out there just looking for a loving owner and he/she will be forever grateful you came along.

It's tough man. I had to put my dog of 15 years down and I can't think of too many things in my life that have been harder on me than that day.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Losing our first dog was the hardest thing my wife and I have gone through. That was 15 years ago and as I think about it, it still makes me really sad.

I feel your pain Scott....my dog got out of the house this weekend, and I'm pretty worried at this point I'll never see him again. We'll see if the chip they put in him makes a difference.

The little dog I mentioned earlier was pretty much blind by the end. He knew when to turn because he ran into the wall. Even then, it's hard to part with him, but it was so much better for him.

My mother had me drive that day. She felt that her crying would make it too tough for her to drive. As it was, we still had to wait a few minutes for me to collect myself, and I barely cry at all.

I'll say that the drive there is really awkward. The dog wags his tail, because he doesn't really know, but you do. That's an odd drive.

    Re: Losing a pet

Hopefully you cherished your memories. Dogs really are our best friends. I love my dog to death. It's better to have a few years of an awesome pet and have to say goodbye than to never have a pet at all.

Sorry for your loss, Scott. We have lost many pets in our 40 years of marriage, but it never gets any easier. Each one is still a part of our family. Time will make the hurt a little softer. Keep the faith, Bro.
