Watching the ISU Nebraska replay has once again confirmed that

there were many many heroes in the game for State.
    So many "hustle" plays.

Man, oh man, are we going to miss Jesse Smith and Mike Brandtner or what?

Sorry I have posted this in MBB. (Alzheimer's I guess.)

Hey dude, I'm trying to get a mod to move it!

But hey, as to your point, yeah, Greg sometimes didn't seem to know quite what to do or say and did end up punting, didn't he?

We had a ball-hawking defense that day, for sure. They were very opportunistic. Just think if we had AA and A-Rob out there that day. As it was, our offense did just enough with playing keep away to get the W, though I wish we could have kept kNU from getting that last possession.

But if they didn't have that last possession, Jesse Smith doesn't have a legendary Cyclone moment with that last interception. So it all works out.......

Athletically our defense is better than last year. Maybe not mentally, but then again they were learning a new playbook last year... and while these new guys maybe not have the playing experience.. they have already had a year to learn the ropes and playbook.

And the experience that the experienced guys had prior to last year was experience in getting burned. I think we'll be all right.

One could argue that the "experience in getting burned" was very much a key for the unit's success in 2009. A lot of teams will lose it mentally and just shut down after failure. But then there are those groups of young men who take that experience and use it to motivate themselves, and then are able to smile in the face of adversity. That's the kind of defense that you guys had last year, and the same kind of team that Iowa had in 2002. The adversity the Hawks faced in Ferentz's first 2 years provided the foundation for their success in 2002.
