I would prefer not to be standing during the flight. If it's safe and somebody wants to buy those seats, more power to them.

Sometimes I think that the more an airplane resembles a cattle car, the better airline execs like it. Although, the price that was quoted was ridiculously cheap. That might attract a few takers.

It's hard to resemble a cattle car more than they do already, but this development would do it. And people will do too many stupid things for a cheap price.

I still wonder why they don't just load from the back of the plane to the front. It seems smoother and more efficient to me.

Some airlines do this. (after they let first class on, of course) They call rows from the back of the plane first. The problem is, it still doesn't prevent idiots in row 7 from ignoring the instructions, boarding early, and tying up the process.

Touche. There is still the idiot problem. That one's tough to crack.

If I were in first class, I think I'd rather wait than have people walking all over me.

I can tell you that if/when I'm travelling in Europe again, I'd sure as hell be willing to stand for an hour if I got to fly for $6. I wouldn't travel from London to Athens like that, but I'd be more than willing to save myself $80 by standing from Madrid to Rome.

As for loading the plane: Ryanair doesn't load from jetways in many places (if any). Typically the plane is parked outside the terminal and you walk or bus out to it, and they load the plane from both ends simultaneously. On most flights, there isn't reserved seating, either, so it's just a complete scrum if you're traveling in a group with others.

    True and Valiant

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Those "idiots in row 7" are those who have elite frequent flyer status. One of their perks is to board the plane early.

    I've always thought that too.

I hate sitting on a plane. Why try to get on first so I can just sit there for another 20 min.

If finding a spot to my carry on wasn't a problem I'd just hand out and be the last one on.

I'm not talking about elite status folks. Elite status folks know the drill and get their carry on put away in no time. I'm talking about the idiots who ignore the boarding instructions and assume that if other people can get on the plane, then they must be able to as well. You see them in line all the time.
"Did they just call seating area 1?"
"Nope. They called seating area 3"
"Oh well, I already drug my giant suticase that I plan on carrying on, up here. I might as well stay."

I would definitely do this, but I am tall enough that plane travel is incredibly uncomfortable regardless of the situation. I don't think I'd like to do it for more than 3 hours though.

Yeah, I think the cheap cost would be great for short flights (under 1.5 hours), but definitely not longer ones.

A few things to keep in mind.

#1 These are usually small european trips that take less than a couple of hours.

#2 Airfare is already cheap on these airlines inside of europe. I think we paid $50 to go from London to Rome.

#3 These airlines have to fight with rail which is sometimes faster.

Vertical seating? I wonder what George Carlin would have to say about that - shouldn't we just call it what it is - STANDING?

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.
